Some hints from experienced IF pilots

Hey guys,

I’m still kinda new to IF (since October). I love flying on expert and joined my first VA Korean. 👨🏻‍✈️

Because of my real life circumstances, I prefer to fly only short routes with smaller planes like the 737 family (YES, HIPED FOR THE MAX) and Airbus 220 and 318, 319, 320.

I would really appreciate some tips and tricks for a much better landing and even take off.

My problems: during landing I mostly take controls around 6nm after gear down and stabilized Approach Mode. I keep speed at AP activated with Vapp until “200” call out. One problem is to center the runway, even with FPV activated. I tried different settings for sensitivity and trim but always have this problem. I come down, but it’s not beautiful. Struggling to center after touch down. I simply can’t touch down with both main gear wheels. Always first the left wheel, then right and the wild ride begins.

Second problem, my flare. One time it’s too much and I float, then I hit the runway with almost all gears at once. The other time, my flare is too low and … I hit the runway with all gears at once.

I appreciate some good hints.

Thanks!! 🙏

Flare has to be with speed you landing …
you have to consider your weight of the aircraft

Center of runway some times is not easy . Have to consider the winds . Try use more rudder some times . Keep your wings level .

Still you can practice in solo mode

Could you provide a replay? Via sharemyinfiniteflight.com

Yes, a replay will help. Also a screen recording of how you usually do your landings in hud view. :)

But a quick tip re: centerline: put some null zone on your roll.

Keeping wings level is so hard for me, cause I’m holding my device and there is simply no feeling of being leveled. It’s always a bit left or a bit right.

I know that, but still don’t have a feeling to use this knowledge, so I don’t stall cause I’m too slow or don’t float cause I’m too fast. 😅

Sure, I’m actually flying from EGLL to EGPH. As soon as I landed, I share one. 🙂

There’s usually some wind effect so you have to correct it constantly.

You can use speed calculations. A good and easy one is flightsmart.info
Or you can use Simbrief, but that’s a bit less accurate for some planes.

And before you disconnect your auto pilot make you your device is calibrated

Our always can change the sensibilities of your controls on settings

Do you use HUD camera to do your landings? This can be a big help. Sorry if this was already discussed

I use hud for the fpv.

The null zone is a good hint, but needs some practice. I first chose 10%, which feels like turning my iPad like 180° to achieve a reaction. 🤣 Now I try 2%

People will call me a witch for this… but… I always fly on the outside lol - so I can see how nice everything is looking and it gives a much better gauge of things - then I kinda just wing it based on that :) #FlyOnTheOutside

Well, if it works 😂 And believe me, if this would
Be possible in real life, like with the help of … don’t know… plane bonded drones and vr glasses, there would be pilots doing this as well.

Erm… What?!

So, cause I ruined the screen record I did a quick short fly from EDDC to EDDP. Here’s the link. Yes, I did not contact EDDP Radio for inbound and landing, cause, there is literally ever anybody around 😅 Just Jump to the landing it self

After taking a quick look at your replay I’d give you these tips

  • you were applying quick intervals of rudder on the decrab. This has little help. Hold the rudder with your finger and adjust the position as needed. When decrabing, aim for the plane, not the FPV to be at the centerline
  • on the flare, give a little bit of aileron to the direction where the wind’s coming from, in this case, left.
  • your flare was a little bit early, which floats you and reduces your chances of maintaining centerline. On a light A220, 10-20 feet should be enough for a good flare.

The IF Youtube channel has a good tutorial for it, I’ll link it below.
