What will happen if you leave your phone on for the whole flight with airplane mode turned off.

nothing much its just annoying for the ATC and pilots because it can cause interference
between ATc and pilot communications

That’s a bunch of malarkey. Honestly this actually goes back to when cellular phones ran off analog systems. This is no longer the case with new digital systems.
its actually correct the communication between ATc and pilots use radio waves thats the same type of waves phones you during calls or to sending out text messages when you do this the waves interfere with each other causing a disruption between the communication so its not a bunch of malarkey i agree they are getting better with technology upgrade but its still a thing.

Certain carrier bands yet (which are being phased out) but current LTE band has jack to do with it.
