The current implementation of spoilers is rudimentary and prohibits realistic speed management. For instance, this feedback loop often occurs whilst descending:
- Idle throttle fails to maintain your selected airspeed;
- You open your spoilers to ‘FLIGHT’;
- Spoilers slow you down too much, requiring throttle input to maintain selected airspeed;
- Throttle input should not be occurring with spoilers deployed, meaning you retract your spoilers;
- Aircraft is too fast - back to Step 1.
Currently, the only way to manage this problem is to adjust your vertical speed. This is a poor workaround which interferes with STARs and ATC instructions (i.e., expedited descents).
The solution? Mimic real-world behaviour (or at least implement a slider, like the one used for mixture on GA aircraft in the sim). The slider interface is already in the sim - surely this is an easy fix.

I like the solution X-Plane mobile had, It was a slider that was configured for to occasions.
- when on ground you could slide and deploy full spoilers and retract by sliding them to normal sotwed positions
- and when in the air you had a slider function again in which you had the slider that was configured to have spoilers raised halfway or to the point in which they do decrease the speed. And you can adjust the slider on how much you want the speed to decrease.
This in my opinion would work really well
I feel like this could work well if this was implemented with varying levels of spoiler deployment available, rather than a slider.
This could be something similar to the flaps options (1°, 5° etc.), so we could select a level. I am no expert on development, but it seems like it would be more difficult for the dev team to create a slider for the spoilers rather than replicating the system we already have for flaps (and yes, I know we have the rudder slider)… but again, I could be mistaken.
A simple slider between off and full would be sufficient, with an extra notch for armed. Then there won’t be a need for the current flight spoilers setting and it will more closely mimic real world behaviour/operation.

Bumping! hopefully can be added along with the new UI changes.
I think there should just be more configs rather than off, flight, and armed
