Slack or Discord - Which do you prefer using and why?

Yeah, you have to rely on trust and sometimes people forget or dont know.

I’ve used both and I will choose Discord over Slack with no hesitation. It has more features than Slack and it has greatly improved in recent months.

Definitely slack. It’s clean, customizable with colors, and modern. It’s also easier to move server to server from.

All the people saying Slack is ‘cleaner and easier’, that’s all just your perception.

I like slack for how simple it is, how it looks, and for what I use it for it’s perfect. I’m not that big of a fan of discord because I don’t like how complicated it is, how it looks, and it doesn’t fit what I would need to use it for. 🤷‍♂️

For all the people saying Discord is better, that’s their perception too.
This thread isn’t for arguments. ;)

Obviously it applies to both ends, just a lot more apparent from Slack fanatics

Slack is definitely tuned to business-like use way more than Discord, which (to me) feels like its more of a gaming platform. (After all, the advertisements for Slack that I receive are all advertising using Slack for a business.)
So I think it depends on the type of VA you’re in. Is this a professional VA, or is it more laid-back? Is voice chat more of a priority in the group than text-based communication? Is this group going to have more than 60 members and/or more than 3-4 active channels?

Very good points, thank you!

I have both. In terms of the need for voice chat (Dynamx, GAF, etc.) Discord takes the cake. But in terms of daily VA use (flights, logging, chat, etc.) I find slack easier to use.

I use Discord simply because it’s 100% FREE, there is much more options in terms of customisation and I find it much easier to use than Slack!

100% discord. So easy and so customisable! I use it for everything.

I agree with you there. In my mind they’re not really comparable because they’re so different and intended for different audiences/purposes.

But if I had to pick, I’d say Slack for professionalism.

The opinions are pretty divided. Wow, 51/49

Depends on the situation IMO. For work based matters where voice chat doesn’t matter, Slack is more useful. There’s also a neat reminder function and the ability to DM yourself things. Also custom gif emojis for free

For gaming, leisure and socialising, discord is far better as it was designed for that market, hence its optimisation and it’s more gamer friendly elements.
