Singapore Airlines 777-300ER Frankfurt to New York

After several days, our long trip is coming to an end. We’ll be flying across the Atlantic aboard Singapore Airlines’s 777-300ER, the current workhorse of the SIN-FRA-JFK Fifth Freedom route, having taken over from the A380-800 a few years ago.

Server: Solo

Airline: Singapore Airlines

Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER

Origin: Frankfurt Airport, Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)

Destination: John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, New York (JFK)

Flight Number: SQ26

Route: EDDF-KJFK

Seat: 1F (First Class)

Time En Route: 7 Hours 59 Minutes

Waiting to reboard at Gate B42 as the Sun comes up on a chilly morning in Frankfurt

Taxiing by the Lufthansa Technik ramp on our way out for takeoff. By now, the first class suite we’re in is starting to feel as familiar as a well-worn glove, and we’re treasuring every moment we spend in it.

Taking off from Runway 18. We’re officially on our way to New York!

Got a view of Runways 07L, 07C, and 07R as we climb to our cruising altitude of 36,000 feet west of the airport. The flight crew has throttled back to climb thrust, and the distinctive GE90 roar has faded to a somewhat subtle rumble, though that may be affected by how far forward of the engines we are and how light of a load we took off with. 8 hours of flying is almost a short-haul flight for a 777-300ER!

Breakfast over Belgium! Appropriately, we’re finishing up the Belgian waffle we got at FRA.

We’re about halfway through our flight when lunch is served over the middle of the North Atlantic. Today, we picked the roast fillet of beef with morel mushroom sauce, again. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

After a supremely comfortable, turbulence-free ride, we’re turning south over Long Island Sound as we descend into New York City

Landing on Runway 13L in the Big Apple. According to the temperature displayed on the IFE screen, it’s colder here in the mid-day than it was earlier in the morning in Frankfurt.

Taxiing to our gate at Terminal 4 past a gaggle of Delta Connection RJs. Curiously enough, Delta has both mainline and regional service to LaGuardia from Nashville, but only regional to JFK, arguably the larger operation for the airline.

Deplaned at Terminal 4. After all the flying we’ve done aboard Singapore’s 777s, it feels almost sad to be disembarking from one without the knowledge that we’ll be back aboard soon. However, it’s definitely not a goodbye, just a see you later.
