You called my base on my final pass. The departing aircraft must be airborne before the arriving aircraft crosses the threshold. If that was me I would have allowed me to make the turn whenever as your departure was already entering the runway. You could have anticipated the departure would have been airborne by the time I was on short final - this is more efficient. If it looks like it’s going to go wrong it’s absolutly OK to send me around, it’s better than overcontrolling. If you have a huge line of departures and you have to try and get people out you can use things like extend upwind, call base, even a left/right 360 for spacing on the downwind is OK to help expedite your departures. In this case there was one cleared for take off and one downwind and nobody else on ground or sky so I think you could have let it play out without intervening. Sorry to be picky but you did really well so I’m being more thorough. Best wishes

Amazing job, one of the best practice sessions I’ve ever been too. The only problem I saw is that when you told me to enter left downwind runway 12 when I was on right crosswind 08R. It would have been better to give me right downwind to 12 because I was already in that position. Left downwind made me have to make an awkward turn.
Thanks for patterns though, everything else was perfect. Well, except for Air Force 56…
