Simulator crashes

Almost every flight the simulator crashes. I thought it was because of overheating, so I set the graphics settings to minimum, the number of aircraft for rendering to minimum, everything to minimum! The tablet stopped overheating, everything is fine, but the simulator still crashes!!! What is the error?

Device: iPad (6th generation) 32 GB Wi-Fi
Operating system: iOS 17.7

Hi there, sorry to see you are experiencing problems

This error seems to be caused by hardware limitations with the device. To be precise, the iPad 6th gen is 6 years old and only has 2GB RAM, which is short of IF’s strong recommendation of 3GB RAM or more, which is why your iPad is crashing a lot, as that RAM is too small to keep up with IF’s demands, and crashes the app to avoid failures. The only real fix is to upgrade to a device with more than 3GB RAM (I recommend a device with 6GB RAM+ for a good experience).

A fix that may work short term (not guaranteed) is to restart your iPad before any flight, to make sure you free up as much RAM as possible, but due to the small RAM size, the application will still be likely to crash in demanding situations.

Thank you, you just confirmed my suspicions about the RAM, I will look for an iPad with more RAM.

I’m surprised that you’re even able to update that thing to the latest OS. I think that could also be another reason. Including myself, there has been a performance impact on devices using IOS 17. Out of curiosity, did IF crash often on previous versions or no?

I started noticing crashes at the end of 2023. As far as I understand, it all started with the update to iOS 17. So yes, you are right, it may be all about the firmware of the tablet.

Did You Try Clearing the Cache?

Clearing cache only works for terrain errors, not app crashing. OP was given the solution a few posts above.
