SimBrief IFR issue

I have an issue with some SimBrief cruising altitudes.

I’ve set SimBrief to IFR. Means, if I fly to the west, I should get even altitudes for cruise, like FL300,320,340 and so on. Flying to the east means odd levels like FL310,330,350 and so on. I often have the exact opposite.

Does anybody know, why this happens?!

IFR has nothing to do with this. IFR means Instument Flight Rules. These altitudes may only apply for Trans-Atlantic routes.

The RVSM semi-circular rule does not apply to all areas of the globe. Over areas such as the oceans, they don’t apply. Some continental areas with predominantly north-south airways (e.g. France and Spain) will have different rules based on that.

I’ve never had an issue with Simbrief giving me an “incorrect” cruise altitude.

So, when flying from Tenerife south to… let’s say Frankfurt… it is obviously a very north heading flight but also heading east. So, if I get an even Cruise altitude like FL360 it’s correct?

Yes - France and Spain have different rules. North (270° to 089°) = Even. South (090° to 269°) = Odd.

When flying between Spain and Italy there’s the exact opposite: east = even, west = odd
