Show Runway Lengths & Airport Class in Airport Selection Menu

Feature Request: Show Airport Runway Lengths & Airport Class in Airport Selection Menu

Background: Often times when I am selecting an airport to spawn at, I am not entirely sure if the type of plane I want to fly from that airport is appropriate. It may be a large regional or international airport, but can it really handle the heavy plane I want to fly? You can’t necessarily tell this from the current airport selection screen pre-spawn.

The Request: This feature request is for FDS to include runway lengths when selecting an airport in the airport selection screen prior to spawning. I also think that the addition of the Airport Class (Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo) would also be useful information to view from here as well.

I am aware that a simple Google search can get airport information for us. However, when I am preparing to fly and only have access to one device (such as my small phone) I find switching between windows (FDS & Browser) to be a bit inconvenient.

Current State: The only way within the sim to find out how long an airports runways are is to spawn in, click on the airport and go to the runways tab. Same with the airport class:

It should be realistically possible for FDS developers to be able to pull in the runway lengths as currently other information from the Airport menus is pulled in: (METAR, some information from Airport Info tab).

Proposed (doesn’t have to be exactly like this, this is just an idea): Mock-up of addition of runways & runway length as well as Airport Class:

I am always appreciative of thoughts and feedback.

(I don’t expect a lot of votes as this isn’t a livery request nor related to a re-work of a plane or the A350, ha!..but feedback is always a good thing…and it’s always nice to put these smaller ideas out there… )

This would be a neat addition

Would be nice to have that info :)

This would be way simplified way for easier access to the airports info without spawning in. Everything sounds good to me.

Thank you…and yes, that’s the idea!

Simple yet gets the job done.

As I tell my co-workers…sometimes, it’s the littlest things that make the biggest impact. Thanks! Aside from frequent flyer, if you look at my requests I try to focus them on the little things. They won’t get a lot of votes, but that’s ok. As long as they are heard and read and considered, I’m fine with that.

This used to be a feature on IF many years ago. The length was included as well as the material of runway. Anyone else remember this?

Yes, I vaguely do…it would say dirt, grass, etc… under the runway length if I remember right.

Yeah, I remember always trying to choose the concrete ones lol

I think that was before live was around?

Yeah I think so too- I used it on an iPhone 3gs

Love the idea of the runway idea but not so sure about the type of airport. Reason being is that you can tell what class airport it is by looking at the number of rings around it. But as always great feature request :)

Thanks, @BlakePope …the rings aren’t visible from the airport selection menu…at least I don’t see them. Possibly that is something that can be added to the menu? But I would think other globe UI things would be prioritized ahead of that. I could also be wrong…

It takes 30 seconds or so (depending on your internet connection) to find the appropriate airport diagram online, which will have information identical to how it is in Infinitr Flight.

I am aware, as indicated in the OP. Wouldn’t you rather have this information in the menu, though? In addition, non edited airports may have different info then what’s in real world charts…Good luck finding 4/22 on a chart at KBWI for example.

Which leads me to one of my other requests (shameless plug…):

Yah, that’s fair. I can’t imagine it would that difficult to implement, it could be exactly like the airport menu you have in flight, which includes the ATC info, etc.
