Why Orlando and Brasília?

This edition highlights Brazil’s Independence Day, so the nation’s capital was chosen as the setting for the celebration. Orlando was selected as the departure point; located in Florida—a state home to a significant Brazilian population—the city is one of the most popular U.S. destinations for Brazilians tourists. Fittingly, this is a GOL route operated by the Boeing 737 MAX 8 via the airline’s strategic hub in Brasília, which is geographically situated in the center of the country.

A curious fact for aviation enthusiasts: The city of Brasília was built to be the country’s capital. Its architectural and urban planning design features a shape resembling an airplane fuselage, which is why it is known as the “Pilot Plan City.”

Independence or Death

Brazil’s Independence Day is marked in history on September 7, 1822, when—on the banks of the Ipiranga River (where the city of São Paulo stands today)—the then-Emperor Dom Pedro I shouted the famous phrase “Independence or Death!”, proclaiming the nation’s triumph and freedom from Portuguese rule. The day is celebrated in various parts of the world wherever Brazilians are found and is known as “Brazilian Day” (which is also the name of a famous event held on the streets of New York).

Hyper Event

GLVA fosters pilot interaction through the creation of events. Pilots who reach the VA’s highest rank—Universe Commander—can nominate a “Hyper Event,” which may then be developed into a production for the IFC. This edition features a special nomination by @Orobix—a group member since June 2025, one of the most active pilots, and a key supporter. Thank you for being an aviation enthusiast so dedicated to this hobby!

Smiles Travel Tour

A project created by GOL Intelligent Virtual Airlines to promote traffic at the airports served by the company, including airports served through realistic codeshares and partners, inspired by the Smiles frequent flyer program. The tour takes place on VA’s internal server and is an edition promoted at IFC - Let’s enjoy it together!
