Santa Ana to Newark | United Airlines 737-700

Hello Everyone! I thought today I would try out making a trip report, so here it goes!

Summary

KSNA-KEWR
Flight Time: 5:02
Boeing 737-724
Seat: Economy 26A
Flight Number: UA1559

We got to the gate early enough to see N24706, our 737, pull into the gate and start deplaning. She’s one of the few still painted in UA’s Continental livery, and just came in from Newark.

After boarding up a few minutes later, we’re crossing Runway 20L at SNA to the small holding area short of 20R, a 5,700ft runway. This takeoff, of which I’ve experienced many times, consistently ranks as one of the most chaotic among the people I’ve asked.

Rotate! When boarding, the pilots said that because of the heavy departure, we would be using 25 degrees of flaps on takeoff!

Airborne now, passing through 12,000 feet. The takeoff was not as bad as usual, and it was a very scenic departure. We made a right turn over Newport Beach and flew out over the San Bernardino Mountains, unknowingly passing over the Lufthansa 747-8 D-ABYN in a hangar at KSBD getting painted in the 100 years livery!

Passing over the Rockies as the air finally decided to chill out and let us have some food! I went for the burger, which was a solid choice. I also decided to check out the bathroom, and it was decently clean and well stocked with all the essentials.

A little while later we had the pleasure of flying over @813WhiskeyNovember land and the Windy City, before crossing Lake Michigan. I went back to the galley and asked for a water, and the flight attendants were nice enough to give me a whole bottle!

A while later we started our decent into what consistently ranks as the US’s most stressful airport.

Turning final for, oddly enough, runway 22R, the closest runway to the terminals. Although I couldn’t capture it on camera, the very busy airport of Teterboro is right underneath us.

Touchdown was very rough, akin to another 737 operator I know… Apart from that I was pleased to see an A340-600 of Lufthansa holding short of 22L as we passed over for landing!

Deplaned at gate A25. Unfortunately the jet bridge decided it wanted the day off and didn’t work in replay mode, but I assure you it worked just fine for us passengers.

Feel free to give me some feedback on what you think!

A few days ago, I flew the reverse route—from Newark to Santa Ana—and submitted a PIREP for United Virtual using a 737-700! I didn’t expect it to take so long for a domestic flight like this! Somewhat brutal 6 hours with this narrowbody is going to be tiring

SNA is always fun. Newark though, can’t say the same.

Bloody long flight for a 737-700.
