CALIFORNIA TO BANGALORE
Welcome aboard Air India flight 176 - the new ultra long haul route that the airline started flying this month! We’re jumping aboard “Jharkhand” today, which is the name given to this Boeing 777-237LR.
The flight has been running every few days since 9th January and been taking between 17 and 18.5 hours. Replicating the exact route, the journey took us out of San Francisco over the U.S.A, Canada, the southern tip of Greenland, Norway, Latvia pushing on through Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Afghanistan finding the southern tip of Pakistan and finally down into India.
The flight has only run 3 times so far so it’s difficult to tell exactly how long this will take on a regular basis. After departure, we were battered by 140-160 kts headwinds for a long time before it finally settled a bit, so that did slow us down. That dreaded “you’re going to run out of fuel old boy” red warning gets me every time on a windy day!
As always it’s a joy to try out some new routes, scenery and of course sit back and watch the world go by, literally! Of course I had to get the camera out after and see what was what…
