without guessing, can someone please explain to me why when I’m flying current sense right now with someone we are both at the same flight level flying .84 mach but somehow he has slowly been sleeping ahead of me all the night until he’s pretty far ahead of me? I double checked with him multiple times and he is actually going .84.
Were you flying at the same flight level?

Make sure that your aircraft said it was going Mach .84 first. For some aircraft it doesn’t always go the specific Mach speed that autopilot has it at.
This may be because you have a slower internet connection than him.

and for some strange reason, if we’re cruising up .84 I’m okay but the second I switch .85 or .86 to catch up with him the fuel calculator says I won’t be good. Then obviously I know you have to wait a few minutes until it catches up and levels off and says you are okay but it actually won’t

On your HUD, under your your Airspeed display, there should be your ground speed, then under that, it should display your Mach speed. Make sure it is actually at Mach .84, before setting it to that amount

Yep. It can also be caused by the live sever being paused for some reason, and that makes your aircraft stay in your present position until you connect back to the live server.
One example is, that you leave the app for a few seconds, and it joins you back, but your aircraft was placed in the same place which concludes in falling behind

Unfortunately I can’t fight it and go faster they stay up with him I have to stay at .84 or I will run out of fuel before I get there. Which I actually don’t get because I put almost 2 hours of Reserve fuel but that’s a different story
How far back did you fall behind? Was it out of your map’s range?
What do you mean Maps Range? You can see the whole world
Just keep your speed and don’t worry about speeding up. It just has to do with the connection :)

oh no, haha in the scheme of how close we are we are very close still. He is actually orange on my radar but we were obviously trying to fly in a formation flight and at .84 he keeps drifting ahead of me.
Can you please elaborate on the connection part of it? I don’t understand why they connection would keep me back because I mean .84 is .84
Make sure that the aircraft ahead of you was flying the correct Mach speed, keep in mind some aircraft have incorrect Mach autopilot
Sometimes when you are on an online server, there can be delays. Some people may be more delayed than others. I hope that sorta makes sense. You and the other person can both be at .84, but if your connection is a bit more delayed, than it will look like your farther behind.

But if you guys set the same Mach speed despite if it was .84 or not, it should’ve kept you guys at the same speed
So his ground speed is around 493 and mine is around 488
Are you flying right now? If so increase your Mach speed by one, and it might set it at that speed (around 493)
