Hi there!
I was just wondering: I want to do overnight flights, but at the same time, people say it’s not safe to let a device without any surveillance. Actually it’s the same as if I took off and went out of home, then came back to land, it’s still without surveillance, but the thing is that during the night, if something happens, like the device took fire or anything, it would risk my life and my family’s, so… what do you think about it?
It’s generally safe if your device has a safe reputation. As long as you have a plan on what to do incase a fire happens you are fine. There seems to be no fire incidents relayed to simulating overnight
6 years of flying in IF, 5 years of flying overnights.
The risk (if you can even call it a risk) of having your devices catch on fire is incredibly small, is it even possible??
What you should once you are not looking at your device anymore is :
- Turn on Low Power Mode which is a built-in setting in IF
- Put every possible graphic setting to LOW
- Reduce your screen brightness to lowest
- Turn the camera towards a dark texture (I stay in the cockpit but there could be better cameras to use)
Also a tip I use on my iPad 9th gen is start my overnight with Maximum battery, and go to sleep with the iPad unplugged. I do this to prevent my device from overheating.
Over night flights are perfectly safe 👍
Just do these things
-Take off your phone or iPad case
-Have it charging in a cool room
-Have it on lowest brightness
-Turn graphics down
-Turn off the volume when you are not there
-Your device won’t get hot if you don’t touch it when charging, But takeoff your charger when your are landing or taking off
Your device will be perfectly fine, the record flight time was 100+ hours in infinite flight
“Did this on a iPhone 13”
I do overnight flights all the time, its totally safe, just have low power mode on, volume and brightness all the way down, have the fan on, zoom in to the roof of the cockpit as your view
If you still dont feel safe, here are some overnights during the day in the Swiss timezone
HND-DFW
HNL-DFW
PVG-DFW
Your device would probably overheat and shut down before that happens anyway
Ok, thank you so much! Actually I know that the risks for my device to take fire are really low, but I wanted to know what you guys do. Thanks anyways!
But does the battery has enough autonomy to stay on all night?
Anyways thank you everybody! Your help is appreciated! Btw, I love doing long hauls(for now during the day lol), so if you like it too, try joining me on one of my flights on my flight tracking thread here! I will do my first overnight soon 👀Bye 👋🏼
I have somewhere around 15,000 hours across 3 devices, an iPhone 6S, an iPhone 12, and an iPad Air 5. Never once have I dealt with a serious overheating issue. The steps I take are:
- no other apps running
- screen brightness lowest
- prop up device, small fan pointed at the back
- take off case (for phones)
- point camera at sky or at some dark area of the cockpit
- use Infinite Flight low power mode
- use minimum graphics on phones (iPad can handle medium)
The iPad I have can easily make it through a night without charging, so I just top it up before I go to bed. When I unplug, if it’s showing any signs of heat, I end the flight and don’t continue. If it’s cool (which it is 99.9% of the time), I just let it continue. The phones stay on charge throughout the night, but I’ve never really woken up to a hot device. You’ll be fine.
Ok thanks!
I mean it depends, two days ago I started the flight with 95% and 8 hours later the battery was at 40%≈.
But I’ve had bad surprises, especially during hot weather IRL the iPad could struggle to cool down and the battery will drain rapidly.
This works great, but if you have a fan big enough, put it on that. Keeps it cool all night long, while plugged in.
I had a fan in Spain but here in France I’m relatively safe regarding heat 😂😅
Jk but yeah a fan is great, if you don’t have a fan, try to keep a layer of air between the back of your device and the surface, after removing the case.
My only issue is that if I get a popup from my provider when I’m asleep my sim freezes…
It is safe to do long haul flight at night because at the night there is not too much burden on phone because the temperature of phone remains low i always do 90% of my night flight it’s safe to use go for it
Initiating a overnight flights can be challenging and risky for some users but us, Infinite Flight users, it is completely fine as long as you keep your device to its best performance when you leave it, such as:
- Lowering the brightness
- Turn LPM (Low power mode), can be from the device settings or in game but both can do
- Volume 0
- Make sure your device stays in a cold room approximately 20 degrees or 68 fahrenheit
- Graphics to lowest
- and keep your device charged until approach and landing.
There are more things to do if you want a safe and smooth flights such as leaving Infinite Flight as the only running app on your device and etc. Remember that even if you sleep, there is a chance you wake up anytime so when you get the chance, be sure to check your flight too.
Ok! Thank you @Advanced, @Archielestial , @AndrewWu @Alaska_298, @Generic_Flyer, @Mathurin_Garcier, @A320_Flyerboy19, @Kamran! Really appreciate the help! I’m gonna do my first overnight TODAY, (I’m in France so it’s gonna be the night for me, I don’t know for you). If you want to join me, see more details on my Tracking Thread here Thanks again! Bye 👋🏼
Good luck! Just as a side note the A380 can’t maintain FL400 when heavy. I’d start at 350.
Oh yeah? Last time I saw an A380 flying from DXB to JFK at 40K, interesting 🧐. Well thanks anyways! I will stay at 35k lol
