This may be something that is coming but I was wondering IF for the airports that are controlled, could a feature be implemented that allows you to see in IF what runway is in use.
I think this would be a great idea for the airports that are being controlled. So that when you are planning out your fpl, you can plan accordingly.
It can be added in on the runway page when you click on the airport.
All runways are in use, its just the fact that wind direction can change. The runway the controller directs you to, is the runway in use.

What do you mean my in use? Someone is on the runway?
I think it would be a good idea to see which runway I see being used by ATC for takeoffs and landings (if multiple runways)

The problem is that it is up to the controller. Even if both are green the controller can change it. You can already tell by looking at the traffic pattern and wind direction.

I was thinking like the controllers can have a popout panel that they can choose what runways are in use. With that the map would be updated to that.

Closing this as there are many duplicates related.
Iâve realized that while Iâm controlling as tower, pilots sometimes request a closed runway and despite being instructed to enter left downwind for the active runway, they continue inbound. I have had to ghost several users due to this, but I wish there was a selection in Misc. Messages that said âRunway is closedâ and then the controller could select the active runway. Once the message is sent, it would say "Selected runway is closed, please join circuit for (runway #).
So when you are making a flight plan you plan one runway to Land at and you are requesting to Land now and the Tell your to go around and enter from other end because your side is closed but When you were planning it was open
This idea would help you pick your runway and get an accurate estimate of which runways will be open

I am sick of it! Having two open âgreenâ runways in opposite directions Is a headache as an ATC! There should be, NO, correction, NEEDS TO BE, an ability to either turn an undesired runway approach âredâ and thus âoffâ or at the very least a message that allows ATCâs to inform pilots that âI as ATCâ want you to enter from the other bloody direction, and I donât care if the runway is green, gold or any other colour!. Trying to hint at that with all the other options is madness. Those ânumb nutsâ âŚ
I know the runway green/red numbers are supposed to be wind direction aids, but it gets frustrating controlling airports where the numbers are green on all runways. Despite specific instructions, some pilots just do what ever they want.
The colors would be a useful visual tool for controllers to communicate instruction intentions well in advance of aircraft entering their airspace (kind of like a pseudo ATIS). If toggling the red/green is not an option, maybe other colors could be added.
