Runway Exit Speed

Finally after landing what speed should I exit the run way please

And do you use ground speed or airspeed during take of roll to judge the vspeeds

High speed exits 20-30 knots. 90 degree turns 10 knots.

V-Speeds are always your airspeed.

Depends on the exit-type. If it’s a 90* degree turn then it’s max. 10kts. If it’s a rapid exit taxiway at a narrow angle, you can exit at 30-40kts.

According to the ICAO,

Code 3 and 4 RETs at a 30 degree angle from the runway centerline with a minimum radius of 550m are designed to allow for an exit speed of up to 50kts GS.

Code 1 and 2 RETs at a 45 degree angle from the runway centerline with a minimum radius of 275m are designed to allow for an exit speed of up to 35kts GS.

As a side note, Airbus’ BTV system on the A350 and A380 aim for 30kts on a high-speed exit and 10kts on a 90 degree exit - you may wish to replicate these in IF accordingly as well.

Yup as mentioned, 30kts at a rapid exit taxiway would be the sweet spot to avoid the violation warning on training and expert servers

In a pinch, it’s possible to exit even at 50 kts gs, and trigger the violation warning but you should have enough time to get below 35kts in time to stay clear of a level 1 violation.

Yeah, for taxi, the speed limits focus on the ground environment, so ground speed rules. And the max taxi violation ground speed is what matters in IF.

For the takeoff roll, it is all about the aerodynamics of lift, so IAS (indicated airspeed) rules. That is the “pressure speed” your wings actually experience given the air density (it changes with altitude and temperature) in combination with the actual relative speed, TAS (true airspeed).

So, your GS might be much higher than IAS if the airport is high and hot.

To be fair, the speed violations on the ground are only issued after 20 seconds of exceeding it (as far as I know.)

Meaning that you’d need an acceleration of at least -0.75m/s^2 to avoid this warning after exiting the runway at the design limit speed of 50kts - which is easily doable with manual braking on any aircraft. So the risk of getting a taxi speed violation from exiting an RET is exceedingly low - it’s perhaps just the warning and the beeping that’s slightly annoying.

That math though :fire: lol!

And yes I don’t know the grace period before a violation but it should be enough given someone’s intention to actually exit the runway
