For the controllers… when I request to cross a runway and you tell me to “continue taxi”, that’s not a clearance to cross. I will not cross the runway until I hear a clearance to cross. A clearance must be issued. This has happened to me twice by two different controllers.
Did this occur on Training Server or Expert Server?
Once today in expert server at KDEN. About a month ago or so it happened to me at KSFO, also in expert server.
Hmmm ok - might be worth contacting the controller privately to get an insight.
I agree, which I did with the SFO controller, but got no reply. But it’s good for all controllers to be aware.

That’s not a great look - imo all controllers should be checking the IFC at least fairly regularly for DMs, etc…

Was that after landing? They probably gave you crossing clearance with the runway exit command. But anyway ‘You were already cleared to cross the runway’ command should be used.

Did this occur perhaps after exiting the runway? I could see that causing confusion.

Even when not exiting a runway we do sometimes issue runway crossings in advance (say if you are going to cross an inactive runway).
But yeah we would normally issue “already cleared to cross the runway” in those situations.
I landed RWY 16R and after landing asked to cross RWY 16L. After repeating my request to cross, hoping to hear a clearance, the controller told me to consult the user guide. I was perfectly within my right to repeat my request as I had not received a clearance to cross. To the controller’s credit, they then did issue the clearance to cross.
You didn’t receive an instruction that said for example?:
“Exit runway, cross Runway 16L and contact ground…”

Just be patient buddy. You’re not going to stay between two active runways forever. The controller knows that you’re there and they’ll cross you when the time is right. If you think you waited long enough, like a minute or two, and still didn’t get any instruction regarding the crossing (hold short/cross runway), you can request runway crossing. But if you were told to hold short or if you were already cleared to cross in a previous command, the extra crossing request would do nothing but annoy the controller. 99% of the time, these crossing requests are unnecessary. Patience is key…
Thing is, if you’ve requested a runway crossing and you get a Continue Taxi. One of two things has happened:

You’ve already been cleared to cross and you didn’t realise (We can give crossings really early if the runway is not in use…) but as @BennyBoy_Alpha said, I personally would just give the “Already cleared to cross command”.

You haven’t been cleared and the controller has used the wrong command. In either case, you are highly unlikely to get reported, and if you did, I would like to think Appeals would overturn it.
Always worth reaching out though, you can always tag @/appeals if they don’t respond as a mechanism of giving feedback if you don’t get a controller response.

There is 1 situation where I issue a continue taxi on a r/w crossing request.
If the runway is closed and used as a taxiway as seen at CYUL (10-28).
Makes sense but I don’t think it’s relevant here, from what I understand OP re-requested because he was told to continue taxi, which is not a crossing clearance. Therefore he’s re-requesting to get clearance.
