Returning to the South and the Visit of an Old Lady | Munich, July 17, 2020

Welcome back!

Another week, another spotting topic - this time with the return of Munich’s southern runway which has been closed for construction work for several weeks now. To make it even better, Friday also brought quite some special movements as well.

The first movement I was able to catch was K5 Aviation’s new Airbus A319neo (ACJ). Because why use a tiny private jet when you can also have an entire Airbus for yourself?

Shortly after, the first special touched down from Dubai on the second passenger flight operated since the return to Munich only two days before: The orange EXPO 2020 (or now rather 2021) Boeing 777 of Emirates.

Almost at the same time, we also saw the touchdown of one of the most famous special liveries around: Icelandair’s Boeing 757 “Hekla Aurora”

Let’s return to some more “normal” movements though. While it usually uses the northern runway, Air Canada’s Dreamliner bound for Toronto now also uses the southern runway since construction works take place on the northern runway now.

Another special with a fellow IFC member departed to Greece minutes later - Condor’s retro jet named “Hans” brought @Speedbird_286 to the Aegean Sea.

After being parked for several months, Lufthansa’s A350s are also slowly entering service again. Here, XO, also called “Ulm” returns to its home base.

Another rare visitor departed back to France after landing earlier that day: A CASA 235 of the Armée de l’Air

Another departure was one of Belavia’s E190s still wearing the old color scheme giving it a retro look as well.

An airline that never really left Munich throughout the shutdown was Qatar Airways who brought one of their A350s just like every other day.

Shortly before the trip came to an end, Condor’s Boeing 757 still wearing the blue color scheme left Munich for Crete looking like a flying shop for spare parts.

After a quick (6 hour) flight from Scotland, another rare visitor touched down in Munich - a 75-year-old DC3 which was on their way from the US to Egypt.

I hope you once again liked this topic! I guess by now we all know it won’t be long until I return with the next one.

My Equipment:

Canon EOS 80D
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM (99% of pics)
NEW: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS II USM (for wide angle pics)

Backup / Old Lenses

Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (for the 1% of the cases where I needed a wide angle lens)
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM (for the majority of my very old pics, bascially completely replaced by the 100-400 now)

Very cool pictures I always enjoy seeing a spotting topic from @Moritz. Against popular opinion that 757 looks spectacular!

Well, not really an airline, but I heard that it went to Egypt for measurement flights and might return in several months when they are done

Very, very nice pictures! Also even some tire smoke in the pictures as well as the special livery and aircrafts. Looking already forward to the next picture, thank you!
