Removing Level 2 violations

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there’s any process for having Level 2 violations reviewed or removed.

All three of my Level 2 violations occurred within my first week after upgrading to the Expert Server. Each one stemmed from a misunderstanding between myself and ATC while I was still getting accustomed to the procedures and expectations.

Since then, I’ve taken the time to learn from those mistakes and have become much more familiar with Expert Server operations. I’m also a real-world pilot, so proper communication and procedures are something I take seriously, both in Infinite Flight and in real life.

I’m asking because I’m interested in applying to become an Infinite Flight controller, and those early violations don’t really reflect how I operate today. I’m not looking to dispute the violations publicly, I was just wondering if there’s a process for having them reviewed or whether they remain on an account permanently.

Thanks for your time.

Hello!

Violations can only be appealed/removed within 7 days of receiving them. If that time has passed, then they are on your account permanently.

great… was about to chime in as I have a level 2 I’ve been meaning to get striked from my record. @BennyBoy_Alpha where’s this 7 day period stipulated? Glaring oversight how its up to the pilot to put in a request for this. Reversals should be automatically stricken if the pilot is determined to technically not be at fault.

It’s up to the pilot to initiate because the entire flight data is stored locally on each users device. Without that data file, the appeals team doesn’t have anything to review.

@Metier and about this 7 day period to request this?

@Metier this detail should be noted in that format message appeals sends once vio’s are reversed. Something along the lines of “Should you wish to have this stricken from your record please…”

It is stated in the Violation Appeal instructions thread.

our comms. got crossed. This is either a separate thread or I misunderstood OP. I meant getting a reversed violation removed altogether, i.e. rolling back the total number of infractions. I successfully appealed it, looking to strike it off my total, there a limit for that ? See below, not that long ago:

Looks like that Level 2 violation on your total was over 12 months ago. Therefore, it can’t be removed.

12? you meant 2 months?

That’s a Level 1 violation. They can’t be removed unless it was a glitch.

I was looking at the “1” tally for your total Level 2 violations. The violation not being in your history means it was over 12 months ago.

Not everyone has time to appeal a Level 2 within seven days, and honestly I don’t think that’s made very clear when you receive one.

I also think ATC supervisors should use a little more discretion before handing them out. A lot of Level 2s seem to come from simple miscommunications, not people intentionally ignoring instructions. In those cases, a quick DM or clarification can go a long way instead of putting a violation on someone’s record.

I’m not saying people should never get violations. If someone is being reckless or intentionally disrupting traffic, absolutely. But there are also cases where it’s just a misunderstanding, and those deserve a little more judgment.

From the pilot’s perspective, it can sometimes feel more like a power move than an attempt to resolve the situation. Whether that’s the intent or not, that’s how it comes across when a conversation or warning could have solved the problem just as effectively.

I’m an IRL pilot, and I’m applying to become an IFATC controller because I care about the quality of ATC in the community. I play Infinite Flight to unwind and enjoy aviation, not to get disconnected over what feels like a communication issue.

I’d just like to see a little more discretion before a Level 2 is issued, especially since they can have lasting consequences and the appeal window is so short.

7 days is plenty of time.

If you have enough time to be playing Infinite Flight and flying in/out of ATC airports, then you have enough time to spend 15-20 minutes putting together an appeal.

That’s exactly why I think more discretion should be used before issuing a Level 2. If the solution to a misunderstanding is “just spend 20 minutes writing a formal appeal,” maybe the violation wasn’t necessary in the first place.

thats precisely what it was, a “glitch”. From the appeals, see below:

I doubt that reasoning applies to overspeeding, unless your device bricked up and you couldn’t interact with the app.

That violation was removed and doesn’t appear on your account.

doubts aside, that’s the facts. In light of all this, can I or can’t have this stricken off my total?

@VirgilMapleYN, your only violation in the last 12 months, which is the time period during which those can affect your grade table, is from May 15th, 2026, and it is a Level 1. So, it’s the one you showed in the picture above. You had contacted us, the Appeals Team, in the same month, and I had removed that violation due to connection issues. The only Level 2/3 violation you have in your entire record is from 2020. So, you don’t have nothing to worry about appealing, and even less about how that violation will impact your stats at all (if you won’t receive several others, of course)

@Matthew_Ewing, I understand what you said, and that’s a fair point. The Appeals process, in general, from what I can tell you from experience, doesn’t necessarily take a lot of time, and we (members of the team) are there to help you out. From the moment you contact us, you have 72 hours to share your replay and, if any issues arise, just inform us, and we’ll see what can be done.

A formal appeal is, unfortunately, sometimes needed, but that’s a way to get help and remove a violation which was unfair (if it truly was). But eventually, those 20 minutes can fix what could’ve been an issue: you would get your violation removed and ATC contacted by us, if/when necessary.

Furthermore, the 7-day period is in place for good reason, especially because ATC controllers are required to keep their ATC replays for this period before deleting them. Given that sometimes we require their replays as well for more in-depth investigation, that time frame aligns with ours.

Regarding how many and when violations are issued, that is part of Expert Server, and controllers use discretion. Often, and I’m not saying this applies to you in this case, pilots might not fully see why they were reported for a variety of reasons, including poor/incomplete knowledge of fundamentals, but those are, in most cases, justified. In most cases, violations are used as a last resort only, but generally speaking, ATC DMing you or similar before a violation is issued to clear out a doubt or misunderstanding is extremely hard, if not impossible, based on how the current system works.
