Removed Feature?

Hey everyone, hope you’re doing great!

I was watching Infinite Flight’s first trailer, just out of curiosity, and found this:

Yes, I also think these are strobe light reflections. I’m not sure whether this was just video edited, but if this was a feature, it should return by all means. I believe the devs are working on a lighting rework, but I strongly believe this should be re-implemented temporarily as it could make the experience a whole lot better.

I believe they had to remove them when global came because the global scenery was taking up too much performance, so they did have to make some changes to the graphics (thats why the old graphics reflects and the new ones dont)

But good news, this year we might get a new look at the new graphics, as project metal is almost done, which mean we’ll see taxi lights, clouds, etc

Correct, that would be the infamous Project Metal. This graphics engine rework will open up the possibilities to many cool new visuals - dynamic lighting included.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it is extremely unlikely that this will happen before the new graphics renderer is released. It has been said multiple times that such features at this stage are too performance-intensive to implement, would not live up to IF’s high quality standard, and/or would require the same work to be done twice - right now, with the current renderer, and once again in the future with the new one. It would simply not be feasible to implement dynamic lighting & other performance-intensive features at this stage.

could you send the link to project metal? (if theres one)

There’s a blog article on it you may be interested in reading:

Oh okay I completely understand that. Also thanks for including the blog as I’ve heard something somewhere about the rework you mentioned, but I didn’t know it had a name. Would this rework also include volumetric clouds? Thanks and have a great day mate!

Thank you!

It’s not known if Project Metal will come with volumetric clouds with its initial release, but, as I said in my initial reply, it will open up possibilities for a wide range of graphics improvements. I’d simply advise you to keep your eyes peeled for news on Project Metal :)

If you check staff livestreams, youll hear that volumetric clouds are in the work, and laura said that they are “trying to get things ready for FSE 2023”, which is probably showed something related to clouds (or graphics).

So im sure that volumetric clouds are in the work, and im sure once they come they will be something we’ve never seen in IF.
