I was flying the f14 fighter plane today. And while I was doing a remaining in the pattern, I suddenly wondered: ‘If you have already done one touch & go and are going around to do another one OR to land, do you have to “report position” OR do you have to announce inbound for touch & go or inbound for landing?’
Let me know down below! Thanks for your time and attention! (-:
As Ryan said, report your positions as defined in the picture above. You’d report left/right crosswind of runway XX, left/right downwind of runway XX, left/right base of runway XX and then final.
Another good read is this thread if there is active ATC. Enjoy 😊
Report your position on CTAF as necessary…if at a towered field, tell the tower controller remaining in the pattern and he will tell you cleared for takeoff, make left/right traffic and then once downwind or base he will clear you for the option and you do a touch n go,stop n go, etc and continue with that left/right traffic until otherwise said and if needed the controller will give a sequence you need to follow
It is not necessary to report your position or inbound if you are flying in the pattern. After you said you are going to remain in the pattern, you do not need to report your position. If the tower controller is occupied and did not clear you, it may be a kind gesture to tell him you’re on final, so you don’t need to go around, but that’s really all.
In fact, informing ATC of your position and your status inbound for every circuit starts to clog up the airspace, and it becomes hard and frustrating for ATC. I’m pretty sure this is also ghostable on the Expert Server as this qualifies as “duplicating messages”. So reports for every circuit is unnecessary.
That would be to inform ATC that they want to land and do not wish to do another circuit. However that is still an incorrect use of ATC. The best thing to do if you are informing ATC that this is your last circuit is to report position and say “full stop”. It is much shorter, and this is the standard used in IFATC.
I saw someone doing a touch and go at an airport and than while staying in the pattern after that touch & go he flew around and announced inbound for landing bc he was done with touch & go. Is that wrong of him?

This is a different story. The use of unicom is to inform other pilots, not one controller. There is no “landing clearance” so it’s best to inform at every position (downwind, base, final) so that other pilots know your location and your intentions.
When it comes to unicom, inform of every position, and if you are doing a full stop, inform when you have cleared all runways. It is ultimately every pilot’s job to make sure their separations are safe, but it makes everyone’s life easier when you tell them where you are so they don’t have to look around as much.
Sorry but i have 1 more question: is it incorrect if you announce inbound for landing after a touch & go to notify other people that u want to stop and don’t want to do another circuit?
If in a controlled airspace, the best command is “_Callsign_is on left/right downwind/base/final, full stop”. The full stop informs ATC that you want to finish and do not wish to do another circuit.
Ai, thank you very much. This is what i did; i reported downwind and after that final, than i landed and reported clear of all runways after the hold-short-line.
