Regards concerning post deleted by posters

I have noticed that if a post is deleted by the author it is still viewable by the edit tab at the top of the page. Is that supposed to be that way? And if the post is deleted isn’t that something that the general public should not be able to see.

First and foremost it depends on what the “post” is about. Secondly I’m pretty sure the team are aware of this and that’s just how the system on the forum works. Also if anyone does break the TOS they’re pretty quick to take action. But these are just my thoughts on it I can’t speak on behalf of the team or the devs.

It might be how the system works although I still find it strange that if the poster wanted it deleted, it would still be visible one way and gone he other way.

Well you aren’t wrong but I’m not sure if they can fix that or not. But I definitely understand where you’re coming from and it’s a valid point to bring to people’s attention. But if they flag it I’m pretty sure it can’t get viewed at all so it’s only the editing part that we can see.

It should just be something that people are aware of.

That is indeed how it is intended to work. Its all customisable in settings [1] but the default value work just fine.

It allows users to come back to posts within a certain time frame to undelete their post… for example if it was deleted by mistake. After all, deleting a post is a destructive action which leaves gaps in the discussion which is not good. Slightly going off the rails here but by the same token, this is why accounts are anonymised and not deleted as to not remove any helpful posts. if possible, posts should be edited to add/remove information instead of deleted.
