Recent Trend I Noticed

Over a long period of time, I’ve frequently noticed a trend in the community where people sign up for an event (reserve a gate, say they are coming, etc.) and then don’t show up.

This is obviously fine if it’s an urgent situation (emergency, family needs you, etc.), but heres just a PSA: Before you sign up for an event, think: Can I attend this event? Do I have anything planned this day?

It’s obviously not a huge deal, but just a little thing to keep in mind next time you sign-up for an event.

Safe flying!

(let me know if this is in the wrong category, wasn’t sure!)

As an event creator (and attendee) I agree. I have forgotten events before, I will admit. Life happens. But, it is nice to know how many will be attending and who can and can’t come.

Usually I look at my calendar and know I can attend the events, what ends up happening is I forget to set a reminder for the event and don’t show up. I think maybe you just need to understand that everyone has a life outside of Infinite Flight and sometimes things interfere last minute. That’s how things go. I’ll try my best to cancel if I have another thing going on last minute but I can’t always guarantee it.

Obviously just my opinion and I am open to hear other thoughts (I don’t host events often).

I see if I can attend an event and if I can I add it to my Calendar app. If I can’t attend when something pops up then I tell the event host that I can’t. Simple. Some people may forget as they probably don’t put this on their reminders or calendars.

Think it might be useful if there’s some sort of set of automatic reminders for events (i.e. week before, day before and hour before) when you’re signed up as going.

It’s a bit hit and miss at the moment with reminder as the events happening which doesn’t help. I’ve had alerts of an event happening the a day or two before it’s meant to saying it’s about to start! (assume that happens when it’s been moved to another date/time.)

I mean there is bumps 🤷

I feel like the idea of reserving a gate is very appealing to people, and it isn’t something people really think of actually attending.

In fairness, it is hard to plan months out.

Yeh, provided people haven’t switched off the notifications

As someone that’s been a part of many events from personal creation, va creation, varb creation since I’ve been in the community, i think this has always been a thing

I had to learn early that that’s ok. People have lives, forget about sign ups, get caught up doing something else or whatever the reason

At the end of the day it’s about enjoying what you do in creating and building on that success event to event

That’s why I never sign up until I’m 100% certain I’ll make it, instead marking it as “interested”.

I usually set my events I joined to “watching” so whenever someone posts I get notified and I remember it- but also in the events I’ve created, which was only a couple, I’ve noticed that problem too. Early last September one of my srq events was looking like it was gonna be full, all 14 gates and ga spots- only 2 people ended up coming…

@Ywikiwinfiniteflight & @TheBest , thank you 🥹

I got you. I say I’m gonna come, I’m gonna come. Unless something really bad happens. Then I’ll try to postpone for a little bit.

Yeah you’re welcome! Same as @TheBest, when I say I come, then I come. Especially that it was your birthday if I’m right, @Anthony_Gulluscio ?

I understand it if you have an emergency or something came up that you have to do. But if you sign up you should come. If I sign up for an event I am 95 percent coming. Personally if I find an event I like and then am not 100 percent sure I can come I set that topic to watching.
