That’s great because I was honestly questing it just because I feel like there is an unequal amount of effort is going into feature requests on the pilot side of IF for example, the constant aircraft reworks and 3D objects if feel that not enough updates have been made for ATC requested features.
I was looking for this. I was going to create a similar thread. Voted :)
Apologies for my tardy response.
Thank you for voting! I’m hopeful that someone is paying attention.
Bumping this one up again!
A really really needed feature for both, the pilot but also the ATC side. With Center controlling it would add a new level of realism considering how often it is used in real life.
And with airways this would work even better but that’s another feature request…
I’m still very much interested in this feature request and in reviewing where my votes are, I’d reminded that this is still one of my ten votes. I still think this is a marvelous idea, would add realism, would be quite helpful and will enhance the simulation a great deal!
Big bump! Much needed in a flight simulator, but especially since navigation is very important.
Bumping this
Just a clarifying question: This feature is because some users want to retain the completed portion of their FP rather than have it deleted as now occurs when you select “Keep Flight Plan” after choosing direct to in the middle of a FP?
Just curious, why do you like to keep the early part of the FP? To save, or review the entire trip from the beginning after completion or something?
To Save for future flights. I save mine to Notes and then I’m able to reload them instead of creating a new flight plan for routes I like to repeat. Also, it has to do with going directly to the point instead of turning to intercept the imaginary extended line of the selected flight path segment.
My understanding was that it already does go directly to the point specified, without any assumed line intercept?
If one chooses Direct To with “Keep Flight Plan”, the plane will fly directly to the chosen point from its current position. The point chosen and every point after that is retained. All the points prior to that are deleted.
If one chooses “Activate Leg To”, the plane will turn to intercept an extended line of the chosen segment and then fly to the selected point. For example, if I’m flying heading 270° and choose “Activate Leg To” which has a 180° heading, the plane will continue on heading 270° until it intercepts the extended line of that segment and then turn to 180° and fly to the waypoint. It will not fly directly to that point from present position.
If one chooses “Replace Flight Plan”, the plane will turn directly to the selected point and the entire flight plan before and after the selected point will be deleted. Only the starting point, indicated by WPT and the selected point will remain on the map.
I hope this clarifies things. Please tell me if I didn’t answer your question/concern.
I voted. This would be amazing. Thank you @jesse00pno for the cool and realistic idea!
So, the only issue is just wanting the ability to save the early part of the flight any time after choosing direct to?
Since the “direct to” is fully functional currently, except for retaining the starting part of the flight, your feature request is about save capability rather than “direct to” not working as an explicit direct to (which it now does)?
To be honest, I’m not sure when (or if) the direct to was changed.
Is it possible to save the flight before the direct to is chosen?
Why is it important to save the FP from the start, later in the flight?
I’m just trying to understand the priorities here.
Small bump!
Currently, Direct To isn’t fully functional while also saving the flight plan. I save my flight plans because I put a LOT of time into them (by choice, I enjoy it) and I like to reuse them. Without replacing/losing a part of the flight plan, Direct To doesn’t work. This is a feature request. It’s something I thought would make the game a little better. Doesn’t mean I’m unhappy with IF. Just something I noticed would improve the simulator so I added it. Make sense?
I just thought of a temporary solution that would probably be easier to implement: a button to insert your current location as a waypoint like the current feature does. You might have to delete a few waypoints but not your entire flight plan.
