Random approach pattern I felt like designing

So I was just flying into KNZY runway 18 on single player, but the approach took me right over KSAN on final less than 800 feet above the ground. So I thought of a new approach. It’s very fun!

To start, you enter the approach for runway 29. Then, about 4 miles out, make a right turn and head up the San Diego Bay, heading northwest. Once you are a mile or so east of Harbor Island, make a turn left. Once you reach Harbor Island, make a strong (but not too sharp) bank left and you will be lined up with the runway!

Heading NW up San Diego Bay

Harbor Island on the right with KNZY on the left

Beginning the strong bank to line up with the runway

Hold on, everyone!

Lined up with the runway with less than half a mile to go!

And there’s a perfect touchdown right on the centerline!

I encourage you guys to try this approach and let me know what you think 😜

Another checkerboard… I see I see.

Sounds like fun, but something you cannot see on IF bit occurs IRL is that approach will bring you directly over the downtown San Diego Skyine at about 800 feet.

Exactly. You end up violating KSANs personal space

Yep, that’s why we’re doing it on IF only 😉

Not only their personal space but their personal privacy

Shame on you! You missed the white boxes. ;)

I believe this is a real approach. I’ve stayed at a hotel on North Island. The fighter jets were scrambling for some formation and when they were done, they flew over the bridge and head right into Runway 18, as your photo shows.

EDIT: since these were fighters, they didn’t go as close to KSAN as you did with the SWA 737.

Wow! Do you have a video or picture or anything?

I had a video of 1 fighter (forgot what type) but it’s sadly gone.

Nice! You seemed to be a bit too low on approach though.

It has happened a few times actually happened the other day. I live right on the bay in coronado and see the helicopters fly through all the time. It is a popular area as its the delta transition for GA aircraft so it is extremely rare for fighters to do that approach. but cool to see and very loud!

I summon @THE-OP to make his presence known.

Btw this approach looks fun!

@JoshFly8 I only build instrument approaches btw… not visuals…

I’m just going to put your name next to approaches from now on, really. Surely you can “branch” out to unique offerings.

No, because a visual approach is on the pilot, hence “visual”. I won’t be held accountable for what a “pilot” says he/she can see…

Just roll with it… this is what I get for being nice and awsome. :(

Very cool, expect civilian aircraft aren’t permitted at military airports ;)
