The 5 indicates 5nm away from your aircraft. It changes depending on the range you have selected.

yeah, and if you see others, it just means the same thing

If you see a waypoint or another plane at the 5 or anywhere around that dotted circle, that means it’s 5nm from your aircraft.

5NM = 5 Nautical Miles - this is the unit in which distance in aviation is measured.
You won’t really need to know that, but 1NM = 1.852km or 1.151mi.
