Quick question

For spotting at airports, specifically near the runway (~200ish m) and behind fences in the morning and afternoon, do you recommend using tripods?

That really depends on whether you want to hold the camera and spot. Holding the camera may be nice for multiple angles, while if it’s on a tripod, you’re only getting the same one. It stinks if you’re behind a fence because that cuts off some nice pictures, but it’s totally fine.

I’ve personally never used a tripod during daytime. Just using it to hold my camera while waiting for another plane :joy: @callaa can confirm
The real answer is that it is totally up to you and what are you more comfortable with

Tripods are unnecessary for spotting imo. Even at night I find that it just hampers your ability to track

I never use a tripod except for long exposures of a stationary aircraft.
