I’m noticing that when setting my frame rate limit to 30fps, there’s just too much frame stuttering and so I prefer keeping it on 60fps. I have a very strong WiFi network in my home and my device’s storage is more than enough.
So my question is: are these frame stutterings normal on 30fps or is it something that can be fixed/improved ?
iPad Air 2024 (M2): iOS 17.5.1:
My device definitely supports the 60fps setting but is there a possible way that I could have the same performance on 30fps and are there any benefits ? Or is it recommended to keep it on 60fps on my device ?
Cheers and thanks in advance for your advice/help/support.
Yes I always restart my device and I’ve tried many settings. Are there any specific settings you recommend ? I have all my graphics and airplane count to low.
And one more thing I would like to ask: is it just me or is this “scratching” sounds and screen glitches (which is a sign that the app wants to crash) still a common/known issue amongst IF users ?
That is normal especially if you’re used to the high refresh rates of that iPad model. 30fps is much slower than the 60fps settings and much slower than the up to about 120fps (4 times greater speed) the ipad pro can display, which that 120 fps is how fast things like the animations for switching apps and scrolling through pages run at.
It isn’t actually lagging it just looks like it is compared to 60fps, I’ve observed it with Infinite Flight on my PC (set to 60fps) vs my ipad pro a generation behind yours (set to 30fps)
Hey mate, internet speed don’t matter when talking about device performance.
You have two types of possible limitation of your device, slow chipset (I don’t know which iPad you have but I think this isn’t the problem.)
A low Ram (Kinda likely happen with IOS device unfortunately since they don’t have a high RAM capacity).
If you can try to play on 60 fps since it’s look less stuttering, play with setting like Airplane counts, rendering quality, anti-aliasing to be able to sustain at least 45 FPS.
@OV-099@LaTrixtance many many thanks for your replies and clarifications 🙂.
Actually I’ve been told several times by fellow IFC users that internet speed has nothing to do with device performance. However, a few days ago I went to the store where I bought the device and asked the technician for support. He is a specialist on Apple devices. The first thing the technician asked me was “what internet connection do you have”. I told him that I have mobile hotspot (at that time - now I have home WiFi 1Gbps). Then he immediately told me “that’s far too slow - if you set up a strong WiFi network in your home you will have much better performance”. So that’s why I got confused. Both your clarifications definitely helped me understand several things better than before but due to the reason I mentioned (the technician’s information on the one side and the information from fellow IFC users from the other side), I’m a little bit confused…
Indeed it can impact your performance at some point if your Internet is not stable (far from router, perturbation, other signal can be the origine of the issue).
So you just need a stable network access, speed don’t matter at all (except downloading plane, scenery, airport etc… but even with 3 Mbps that I have when I go to my home country is sufficient).
Slow connections would usually display a different behaviour than what you’re describing. And generally, speed doesn’t matter that much with Infinite Flight.
But, check if you’re having the same “stuttering” on Solo.
