I was on right downwind to runway 4L at KJFK and tower cleared me to land number 1. This means I’m cleared until I’m on the ground right? I don’t have to report base and final or anything?

Correct!
If you’re cleared to land, there’s no need to say anything else to ATC unless they provide further instructions that you need to read back - such as speed restrictions, a go around, etc etc until your wheels are on the ground.
They’ll be watching you on radar, making sure you make it all the way in safely! (:
