Questions On Go around

Hello everyone please how do I do a go around when at 2000ft and apppr is engaged because I disengaged APPR and I lost control of the plane immediately please I need guidance on how to perform a go around in this situation thanks

Simply pitch up to 10-15°, bring your flaps and speed up, climb to the missed approach/go-around altitude (if using charts) and vector yourself (or request from ATC if online) back around for another try.

This sounds like your aircraft wasn’t calibrated and/or trimmed correctly. Make sure to always calibrate your device and that your aircraft is properly trimmed before disengaging APPR.

Whatever trim is needed. You should always pay attention to the trim box, you don’t want any coloured bar in that box.

The go-around/missed approach altitude is usually displayed on approach charts. See example below:

Climb to pattern altitude of 1500, then fly a traffic pattern of the runway, like a Cessna 172 :slight_smile:

1500 AGL and I would recommend flying the way opposite of the terminal.

If you’re under ATC control, they will provide you with altitude assignments and vectors. If you’re not under ATC control, I strongly recommend that you take a look at the approach charts for the airport you’re landing at like @BennyBoy_Alpha mentioned above. It will provide you with altitudes and headings to fly.

I had this same question few years ago & Benny gave the same answer and was correct. You need to ensure the trim box is neutral before taking control of the plane, or at least prepare for it to pull back or pitch nose down depending on which way it is pulling.

If you see any green/pink line on the trim bar(or orange or red if you are badly out of trim), trim positively or negatively until there is little or no line in the box and you will remain level when you disconnect.

A good thing to do as habit, is as you apply flaps on approach, keep trimming the plane to keep it neutral as you go along.

I found watching the trim box and trimming as I slow helps also recognise when the next notch of flaps is required.

That may or may not be enough, the amount of trim needed varies considerably depending on aircraft and weight.

You essentially want there to be no coloured bar in the trim box:

  • If the line is going down from the middle, you need more positive trim.
  • If the line is going up from the middle, you need more negative trim.

There was nothing colored on the trim bar immediately I disengaged APPR the plane goes down to stall immediately!

If you were trimmed properly then the answer is probably that you forgot to calibrate your device before disengaging APPR.

I use 15% trim for everything as general trim settings for me across all aircraft just to streamline those types of settings. I’ve never experienced a problem with disengaging AP and having what you are experiencing in multiple years and I think that is entirely experience based. IF is all about skill, and just like any other skill you must get better at it. Best of luck in the future and safe flying!
