Question regarding centre

I couldn’t find an answer to this specific question regarding the correct procedure . . .

If centre pops online and you’re in their airspace already descending via a STAR. Do you;

A. Check in first then request descent via STAR

B. Just request descent via STAR (skip check in)

Check-in only would suffice in this scenario, this implies that you would continue as per your flightplan. Only request descent via STAR if you’re beginning descent within center’s active airspace.
