when you do a visual approach do you use real life procedures. and do you use if App and Star?

IRL, it depends. You’ll usually follow a STAR all the way to close proximity to the airport (or be subjected to vectors because you’re still IFR), and then once you get close to the airport, you’ll be asked to report the field in sight. Once you do and are cleared for the visual, what happens after will depend on a lot of factors. At my local field, you get a clearance on downwind that doesn’t follow any procedure. Pilots receive a Tower sequence and follow it all the way to the threshold. Even so, most pilots will have the ILS or RNAV approach loaded up on their FMS as a back-up. But it’s okay if you don’t.
