Question about Moffett Airfield

For those of you who have been spotting at Moffett Airfield in Mountain View, what are the best spots, and when should I expect action? I only see private jets and occasionally a C130 on radar. Is there a certain time when it is active? Thanks!

Hey there!
I’ve been spotting here a few times. The airfield mainly serves NASA, the military, and some private operators, so you’re more likely to catch something interesting during weekdays, especially in the mornings when flights are more common. The best spots for viewing would be along the west side near the Stevens Creek Trail or the Shoreline Amphitheatre area. Also, keep an eye on events or military exercises in the area, as those can bring in unique aircraft like the C-130 you mentioned. Hope this helps, and happy spotting!

Quite a rare question to see Moffett on here! I have been a few times, here is some advice for spots:

Departures:
Try this spot. It offers great views of departures, and especially when there are fighters at moffett have have a low departure, it is great. There are rocks that give you a view over the fence.

Arrivals:
Try Manila Avenue. The planes come right over you, giving a great view.

Moffett field is very unpredictable, as it is a former Naval Air Station. There are times where we only get private jets and C-130’s, and other times where an Antonov or Air Force 1, and sometimes fighter jets will come in. Constantly check ADSB for fighter jets. The best advice I can say is fighters usually come on Fridays and leave on Sunday or Monday, about once every month or 2 months. Check if there is a 49ers regular season game at Levi’s stadium, because if so, the jets will almost always come to Moffett Field first.

Hope this helps!
