I am having trouble landing the Q400’s. Once I touchdown, the plane steers toward a new direction, off the runway. Does anyone have any tips for landing so this doesn’t happen?
How are the crosswinds?
Also do you touch down awkwardly on one wheel
They weren’t bad. It happens in all weather.
Do you use the rudder?
Only to try and bring the plane back to the center line.
How fast are you usually foing
About 135 kts.
That may cause oversteer and when trying to correct will just cause it to go towards the other side
Could it have something to do with that awkward touchdown where the wheels don’t hit at the same time?
135 I believe is too fast. Maybe try around 125
Possibly if say the right wheel hits first it will cause the plane to turn in that direction and veering off the runway
The plane starts descending uncontrollably and too fast when I go below 130 kts.
Where are your flaps at
Landing at 125jts the flaps would be 10°
I put them at 10 degrees.
I think I could start putting them out more?
Do you have a heading set set on the AP? If so that could be what is causing the steering problem.
Yes the awkward touchdown would definitely cause some problems
So I should go slower, extend flaps more, and keep HDG setting.
