Would love to see pushback-procedures implemented on the pilot/atc map in Infinite Flight. At my local airport, ENBR, most pushbacks should be straight pushbacks and when instructed to taxi, a max left/right turn with minimum thrust should be performed. Still, most pilots line up with the taxiway, which I find quite unrealistic. I think this feature would add to the realism, help pilots know how the pushback should be performed, and help atc know what to expect from pilots’ pushbacks. I don’t propose “automated pushbacks”, but rather a solution where the map shows an arrow with the “pushback-path” (which perhaps could be toggled on/off?). One could argue that pilots should already know how to perform the correct pushbacks at different airport (by reading charts), but this simply isn’t the case. By making this a feature in the sim, the information would be way more accessible. Below is a photo from VATSIM Scandinavia’s website, which could be used as inspiration.
Remember to vote if you agree that this could be a useful and cool feature!
This will be very nice on the sim. Then can finally people pushback normal instead of doing some weird things, because I’ve seen a lot of weird things.
Yup, that’s true, but for some airports the taxi-procedures for each gate/terminal are published on the web or non-existent and the developers could probably start with those airports. For now, I think making pushback procedures more accessible is at least one step closer to making the sim more realistic (and solve conflicts easier, as mentioned by @Ryan-Owl).
In fact, if you want to make this function, I think the following points are needed to complete it.
The airport editorial team must mark the taxi line on the map, which is the drag-and-taxi vector function. This is necessary to enable the ATC to instruct the crew to pushback in the desired direction.
Developers should incorporate the pushback direction function into the ATC map. In my opinion, the pushback instruction should be modified to “pushback + runway + left turn/right turn.”
Developers should revise the “request pushback” instruction to “request pushback + runway + left turn/right turn.”
*This is just my personal opinion. Thanks a bunch for the vote initiated by @Sandus! .
This topic is still relevant, even after the last update that implemented auto-pushback. A map that shows what the correct procedures is for different gates and stands at different airports, could still be very useful!
