without using appr mode i cant able to align in the center line with the loc. how to make wind corrections for perfectly aligning wit loc?
I use FPV in HUD view to help with this, by aiming the FPV to the runway threshold, and make tiny adjustments
yeah but still i want to do autopilot till minimums. so i engage nav 1 in nav source and engage lnav still its not aligning properly
am i doing it properly?
The logic of APPR LOC mode and normal LNAV mode is a bit different, causing the plane deviating the localizer after switching from APPR mode.
Try hand fly the aircraft after disabling APPR.
yeah … im not using appr mode at all.
im just using autopilot to capture loc and gs
after getting the final heading to capture the loc i just tune nav 1 in source and then i just engage lnav not appr mode , should i not do that? I thought if i do that i will capture the runway centre line and i can manage the gs with rule of thumb at minimums and then disengage the autopilot to land
Don’t do that. APPR logic will keep you on the centerline with no deviation, but LNAV logic counteracts crosswind by deviating off course. You can try using APPR and LNAV all the way and see the difference.
but so either ive to do appr or manual not only using a/p
LNAV is designed to smoothly transition between points in the terminal or cruise environment and not intended to precisely follow courses, especially using radio navigation such as sensitive localizer frequencies. This is true IRL as well. Most aircraft have a dedicated approach mode or localizer function which would change the sensitivity of the autopilot to more precisely follow the nav course for an approach when precision is more important rather than trying to be smooth in cruise for the passengers and crew.
Unfortunately, there is no dedicated localizer mode that would follow these tolerances other than using the full APPR mode
thanks. so i have to either fly manually or appr?
Until IF improves the autopilot functionality to mirror IRL FCP inputs, yes
hope IF does that. thanks for the suggestions
Anything is possible with practice you got this!
yeah but i end up ruining my long flights just to make like irl 🤣
I always use the heading function to intercept and maintain localiser. Works perfectly. If there is any wind, you slightly adjust the heading so that the nose faces where the wind is coming from.
This is slightly redundant on larger aircrafts, especially those like A380, so in those you might want to go manual much sooner
Yup same I use the heading function to align myself with the runway….wait till short final and always manually land.
For wind correction, aim the HUD display to the runway centrelind, no matter how affected by the wind you’re. Once over the threshold, use the rudder to align with the centreline, and you’re golden.
yeah but sometimes it makes the approach unstable
