Project Sunrise: The World's Longest Flight

Project Sunrise consists of two experimental flights carried out by Qantas in 2019, both setting the record for the longest nonstop flight in the world. This flight will recreate the New York → Sydney leg of this series.

Welcome to New York City compromising of 5 boroughs sitting where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. At its core is Manhattan, a densely populated borough that’s among the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers. Its iconic sites include skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and sprawling Central Park. Broadway theater is staged in neon-lit Times Square

This flight covers over 10,000 miles in a little under 20 hours, flying at 85% the speed of sound. The routing takes us west from JFK, across mainland USA, crossing the west coast, and flying across the Pacific Ocean at FL380, before the arrival into Sydney, Australia.

Sydney, capital of New South Wales and one of Australia’s largest cities, is best known for its harbourfront Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Massive Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.

Scheduling an event for the next day is not the best idea since you probably won’t get many people attending. I’d recommend scheduling an event at least a month in advance.

where pushing the range of the 787 lol

simbrief is generating a fuel deficit of around 3 tons

Tbh, If we step climb the whole flight we would manage to save good amount of fuel to reach Sydney

Not an issue if you just don’t load up that heavy, for 19 hours anything below 20% should be totally fine and you can probably go higher than that if you don’t care about reserves.

Im going to do a test-flight this weekend. If that makes it, then we’ll continue.
If not, then ill try to find another route with a slightly lower flight time (like JFK - AKL as suggested by @Airbus18)

Ill share the details of the flight once I hopefully make it to sydney

Test flight departing in 30 minutes, if anyone wants to join
