So infinite flight announce project metal 4 years ago. A lot has changed since then now having 3D buildings, cirrus cloud layers and a lot (I can’t stress this enough) a lot of performance improvements making the game even more stable and better across multiplayer.
However, how is stuff like 3D clouds, airport/aircraft dynamic lighting, Tire smoke on touchdown etc coming along? Sorry if I come off a bit impatient, just curious how development is coming along lol.
I honestly believe they’re doing a great job considering the work they do with the aircrafts. Sensation but I’m curious to see how it’s coming along so far. I wonder if they finished anything I listed already or maybe already started testing any? 👀
Lmao for all I know the MAX is in beta testing right now
and also it’s good that we could possibly be seeing some new Work In Progress shots for what they’ve been working hard on for the past few months or YEARS lol. Project Metal has come a far way indeed
Yea like the atmosphere, lighting and all that lol. But I am beyond excited for this. And considering we still got some time before 2024 is over (4 months excluding this month August) maybe, just maybe by the end of the year could get a WIP of what they’ve been working on and a timeline to release.
Groundbreaking stuff like this tends to be extremely experimental and nowhere near being ready. It’s not exactly the best customer service to reveal that a particularly game-changing feature is coming soon only to realise it will take 4 years to optimise so it can just about run at 15-20 fps on low-medium settings on a budget Android phone.
Theres a difference between “Nothing to share yet” and “Not planned at this time”, the new graphics are in the stage of “Nothing to share yet” and im sure they will share it once they believe they are imminent.
Also, regarding optimization, i believe that the new engine would be much more low level which will probably even improve performance, not sure though.
IF always has a choice whether or not they want to share something that is shareable. You don’t fully know what they could have shared in the past and what the verdict on sharing it might have been outside of what they already show on social media.
Optimization wise, you’re correct but remember it’s not a one-time application of Vulkan. If no part of the project has ever been applied since its announcement, your framerate perhaps would see a hit, and you’d also be sitting at the loading screen for a few extra moments. With Metal the prospects are fantastic but you still need to make it work, which XP12 has shown that it’s never truly ideal having switched from OpenGL to Vulkan themselves ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I agree with what you said. BTW 21.1 contained some parts of project metal, that’s why we were able to get the clouds and buildings in the first place.
Of course, the point is to be able to make the impossible slightly less impossible for the future so that one can enjoy all the features without ruining accessibility.
