Hello !
I love infinite flight and, since I have been flying, which means few years ago, I heard and read about project metal, do you know more precisely when will we be able to have clouds approximately ? Is it coming some day or the project has been left behind ?
Hoping to fly the 380 soon by the way ;))
thank you anyways !
they’re working on project stainless steel now.
jokes aside they’re working on it with every update!
hahah
I get the fact that they are working on it, however, I don’t know if features like clouds and smoke etc will come to infinite flight soon… I mean, flying among clouds will definitely transcend IF and pilots will absolutely love it. IF sky shall be beautiful some day :)
they’ll come… uh… well… when they’re ready
It’s something they continuously work on. They are rewriting code to be able to implement new features. I also read about a new engine coming with it. But I’m no dev.
i don’t know how many time it takes but they have been rewriting the code since 4 years already. I certainly am not good enough to know what it represents
Basically what Project Metal is doing is implementing a new graphics engine (Vulkan for Android and Metal for Apple, hence the name) - except it’s done in iterations, rather than just ripping out the old graphics rendering code and replacing it in a single update, because that’s not a good way of reworking something when it comes to development.
The advancements of Project Metal are the reason why we’re able to have 3D airports and more detailed aircraft now. Keep in mind that graphics rendering is not easy, especially when it has to be done on a device with more limited processing power and temperature management capabilities.
There’s a IF blog written about the development for Project Metal:
Priorities/alternatives do change in those 3 years!
well coding something like that is though especially that they have to consider low end device not to loose too many users by an update like that that would be last thing they want
Obviously coding all this will take time. But I personally think we should be updated on how far they have come with that as this January it would be 4 Years to this blog post.
I don’t think you quite understand what’s being done if that’s the case.
Read what @Alex said :)
thanks, read it in 2020 already, that is why I wanted some news :)
