I wanted to fly the Delta 737-900ER from JFK to Orlando. I was taking off from runway 13R. But the 737-900ER did not want to takeoff, even with touch it wouldn’t leave the ground. I ended up overshooting the runway into the grass
. Here’s proof. I full pitched up yet it wouldn’t takeofff.
Flaps 2° is not sufficient in the 737-900. Flaps 5° is the minimum standard, and depending on your weight, flaps 10°/15° may be required.
Oh yea! I should have maybe took a look at the weight, but I only had 4 hours of fuel. And I never had an issue taking off with flaps at insufficient angle.
What was your weight?
I forgot to check it
but I had 4 hours of fuel and I only had 162 passengers.
Ok. Adding in a respectable amount of cargo, let’s say a TOW of ~70,000kg.
Simbrief’s calculations for JFK 13R give flaps 5 with a rotation speed of 166kts at 92.7% N1. If your throttle wasn’t high enough, that could’ve contributed to the problem.
Oh alright, I see. I will look into that next time! Thanks for your feedback.
Don’t forget about trim as well. 15-25% is usually recommended for heavier -900ER takeoffs.
True, but he was going 200kts IAS, which is well over V1. And, he had 47% load.
edit: i didnt know his throttle %
Probably would help to not have the Autopilot engaged.
Just noticed that lol
The B737 is an aircraft where trim settings are very important. From now on, adjust the trim to match the weight and VR speed. The B739ER has a VR speed between 148~165 kts based on the Flap 5.
How do you get the N1? I just use Gemini to give a general number based off the takeoff data, is it that the same for you?
Do you think op turned on the V/S indicator and didn’t change the 250 default climb? Elevators are slightly pointing upward, it may have been thay.
I hadn’t set a V/S speed yet.
Don’t activate any AP functions on the ground. It will cancel out any control inputs except rudder.
Ahhhh i think that’s the reason! Thank you so much!![]()
