Touch and goes and pattern work is great fun as a pilot in a small prop, especially if there are other small props to chase around the pattern.

I like them when I’m ATC, because it gives you something to control, but they can be annoying when the airspace becomes busy, that’s why I only do touch and goes at smaller airports.

I got 305000 Xp and 174 hours ( difference in them ) due to patterns haha

As a pilot:

They are fun. Many landings, takeoffs, lots of work. Much XP as a bonus.

As a controller:

Most of the time nerve-wrecking for several reasons such as not understanding sequencing, additional work during busy times, disregard “No pattern work” messages, flying away although asked for pattern work.
On the other hand, extreme fun with good pilots and good airmanship.

I use pattern work as a pilot to get to know airports better.

Neat poll. I actually do more pattern work than I do distance flights. I also enjoy when others do pattern work while I control. I like sequencing pattern traffic.

Pilot:
They made my landings go from ‘abysmal’ to ‘dreadful’, and got me on advanced.
Controller:
Great for practice, and keeps you entertained.

I like doing pattern with aircrafts ive never flown on PG, to practice landing and also to communicate with atc. I do crash occassionally which is rather embarrassing since i stock up on unneeded violations but i like doing pattern that way.

At times i just fly small aircrafts and do pattern works. Those are fun.

As a controller, i do like pattern worls but not when its getting busy. But in PG, some people cant differentiate between departure to nsew or pattern work. So when i want pattern work, people are departing north, etc. When im busy, i see some entering a pattern. I’ll still do it, nonetheless, more practice for me.

And i definitely think pattern work is needed on IF. Since its a online community, its one easy way for a win-win situation. Atc can practice while the pilot practices landing. Some people just find it trilling to do the fun part about flying, the takeoffs and landings so a pattern is the fastest way to so these.

As a controller I love to have pilots do pattern work unless the airport is swamped, when the airspace is busy I prefer to either have the pilot come in and land or leave the airspace. As a pilot I will do pattern work at airports that are not busy and I never do pattern work at busy airports so I can hopefully not stress out some poor controller dealing with 20 nimrods at once.

Interesting poll, I prefer flying patterns with controllers from the community. They tend to be more knowlageable and skilled!!

I don’t understand why pattern in IF means climb to ridiculous altitudes, fly crosswinds that take you out of the airport airspace, and fly the downwind all the way to the end of the localizer field. Obviously if there is a lot of traffic, I get it. I hate putting pressure on controllers so I’ll extend downwinds for spacing in that scenario. However I still maintain 1/2 to 1nm spacing abeam to the runway on the downwind while I run through my final landing check. These extremely wide patterns make it so difficult to keep it realistic.

Love it love it love it! The more realistic you get with IF, the more fun it becomes. As with touch and goes, pattern work gives IF pilots a chance to know what real world pilots go thru.

Pattern work is a GREAT thing most of the time, and it just adds to the realism.

I love patterns as a pilot.

I hate patterns as a Controller on Playground (Trolls) but love them on Advanced.

I think pattern work could be necessary for new people, or if you just want some xp. New players might need pattern work for pratice, and so they can learn from experience about pattern work.

I was never told to do one one. Yet.
