Plane Spotting Camera

Hey guys so since the world started to crumble I had a brilliant idea for myself. I thought I should start plane spotting and taking pictures of the planes I see. However I currently only have my note 10+ which is great but I not really ideal for taking really nice shots of planes at least not the shots I want. I was hoping that there might be some suggestions for some good cameras and some that wouldn’t break the bank at the same time. Also if anyone is in the Los Angeles area and after all the chaos has ended would like to meet up and do some plane spotting let me know. Cheers

Nice to hear that you’re from LA! I’m just down south in OC. I do go out to LAX from time to time to spot :)

However, you are still TL1 (Basic). You must be TL2 (Member) to post in the Real World Aviation, Spotting, and Features category. Keep being active, liking, and posting and you’ll get there in no time.

Which probably won’t be many given the state of things at the moment.

You want a camera? Get a Sony A9II with the 100-400 GM lens.

Wait… what’s that? You have a budget? Oh, well that changes things a bit.

How much are you willing/able to spend on equipment?

Alright, you know he would prefer the D850 and its nikkor 70-200.

Miss me with that Sony toy…

Honestly I’d encourage you to go to a specialised shop (not now unfortunately) because IFC will tell you everything and its opposite. Some will even tell you your phone work as good as a DSLR.

Look on YouTube for advice videos on starter DSLR, all you need to know is you will need at least 100 to 200mm for your lens in order to be comfortable.

I would recommend a quick search for “Spotting cameras” or similar to begin with, as there are a lot of topics out the covering this. You can find the search button in the top right corner - the magnifying glass.
