Photos uploaded to the IFC are compressed

Just a general question here: Why are my screenshots super compressed when, for example, I upload my IF screenshots to the S/V topic?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Storage constraints.

When uploading a PNG or anything from PC, you will be constrained to 1920 long edge. This is more than enough resolution for IF screenshots. If for some reason you must have more, uploading JPEGs from phone will bypass the limit.

I tested this out by taking a screenshot, editing it, saving it as a JPEG (on my phone), and sending it to myslef via DM’s.

It still turns out blurry:

Maybe it really is a storage constraint like @Ondrej said?

Interesting, I have always been able to upload my spotting pics full size by doing it via phone.

I zoomed in to show the blurred effect up-close, but here’s the full image:

Maybe above a certain size it goes back to 1920 regardless? My spotting photos are maximum 6000 long edge but I know IF screenshots can be 8k+

I’m mainly making this topic because I see other people’s S/V topics, and I notice that even when zoomed into, the photo resolution still stays sharp.

That may be the case, because the original photo is 9358×4319, but again, as you’ve said, i’ve seen near 8k screenshots… so idk
