Patternwork

When i tell the tower i plan to remain in the pattern…im given take off clearance…right before i turn into the crosswind suddenly the tower gives me a handoff…is this the towers way of saying leave my airspace lol…its been happening lately so idk what to make of it. Kind of a noob here so

In what server was this?

If it was on the training server, you can’t always expect controllers to know what they’re doing.

I’m still surprised the tower actually handed you off. (If that was in TS1).

If you want I can open TNCM TS1 and I can control for you if you wish to do patterns…

In fact I’m probably going to do that anyway.

Training as i dont yet have access to the advanced

Most of the time the training server atc is pretty on point. I just feel that the only tower in the southern cali region that handles patternwork is klax…which is like one of the busiest ones and results in constant go arounds . Less busy airports like kpsp ect always give the patternwork unable or just str8 up give me a frequency change without my request.

You’ll never be able to do patterns at KLAX on TS1 due to the nature of the people who fly/control there. It all depends on who’s controlling at other airports - though you’ll probably get a few that don’t know how to issue the right commands for you to do so.

Haha true…im just trying to perfect my landings at less busy airports so i dont touch down on some taxiway like harrison ford in front of everyone at klax : D

That answers your question. Anyone can be ATC on the training server, even that one annoying grade one that always buzzes you in a fighter jet.

So it explains everything, most of controllers on TS1 are inexperienced and have no idea of this things of pattern work.Once you get in Expert server ATC is great as the pilots.

To answer your question: No. In real life if you are doing pattern work you stay on the same frequency as tower, but since controllers in TS1 are not qualified to be actual controllers they have no clue what they are doing. If the tower in IF tells you to change frequency just don’t listen. Stay on that frequency until 1) you are on the ground and clear of the runway or 2) you are intending on leaving the airspace i.e.: going to a different airport.
To get more qualified and more experienced ATC the Expert Server is that place to be. So keep building up your flying time and XP and you will be there quicker than you know it!

Just go to somewhere like KRSW in SoFlo or any single runway without ATC and practice

Thank you that does clearify. My only worry with with the advanced server is my (occasional) lack of control of the airplane.sometimes i skid off the runway or get into a stall and get a speed violation warning before i am able to correct the airplane.but i guess practice makes perfect.see you in the skies

Don’t worry that is what the training server is for

I’d fly is a region other than SoCal or browse the #live:atc category and see if someone from the forums is controlling.

By the time you reach the ability to gain the Advanced Server you will have built up enough experience so that didn’t happen ( well too often, does happen to the best of us from time to time!).

As a suggestion whilst building up your XP and landings start off in the smaller aircraft and once you have tat mastered then move on the next size up! This will help develop your skills which will avoid overspeed and skidding etc!
