The Fieseler Storch was a German reconnaissance and medical evacuation aircraft used by the Luftwaffe during WW2. It was also manufactured in France post war as the Morane Saulnier MS500.
One of the most outstanding features of this aircraft are its STOL characteristic, being able to takeoff in short distances due to the full-length slats.
The most famous operation involving the Fi 156 was Mussolini’s rescue from his imprisonment in the Gran Sasso hotel in the Alps.
In this video you can see Klaus Plasa (pilot for the
Hangar 10 foundation) make a short hop on the Fi 156.
