Overspeed indicators on the HUD

I could be wrong here, but I remember when Infinite Flight used to have overspeed and stall indicators for when flaps were deployed.

Why was this feature ever removed? It helped with keeping a good landing speed, and also resembled a real-life feature on actual aircraft. I know the 777 at least has this feature IRL.

I think now that if you go too fast/too slow it just says “approaching stall” and “overspeeding” on the screen itself.

Yea, that’s when you go faster than aircraft design maximum speed.

I remember when the red overspeed bars on the HUD used to change based on where your flaps were at. In Solo mode a little bit ago, I was flying 335kts at 5,000 in the 737 with full flaps. The overspeed indicators on the HUD said that I was still within tolerance and there weren’t any alarms going off.

Edit: I found an example of what I’m talking about, on the 737.

The PFD is showing the maximum speed you can fly with full flaps deployed. I remember when this used to be a feature in IF.

As you climb to higher altitudes, the overspeed indicator slowly creeps down, and at lower altitudes (5000ft) the overspeed indicator is still far off if you are going at faster airspeeds.

Is this what you mean?

That’s my point. In IRL, the PFD or HUD (sometimes both, depending on aircraft) will show your overspeed when flaps are deployed. I posted a picture in my above post which shows what I’m talking about.

Ah ok. When did you find out that it was removed?

I just noticed it, in all honesty. I was comparing Infinite Flight now to before I left (I didn’t use infinite flight for about a period of 3-4 years). And I remembered that Flaps Overspeed used to be a feature.

Was the overspeed on older or reworked aircraft?

Both, I think. I remember having it on both the 717 and the CRJ200 (CRJ was one of the only reworked aircraft before I left).

And Infinite Flight has definitely made alot of improvements! A bunch of reworked aircraft (777, 737, A330, just to name a few). Not to mention all of the 3D airports!

I’m just not sure why this feature was removed. And like I said, the 777 has Flaps Overspeed Indicators on the PFD in real life, so why was it not added when the 777 was reworked?

Here’s an example of the Flaps Overspeed Indicator on the 777 PFD:

I think now they just have those red dots which show the overspeed warning.

So they only have the cruising overspeed then?

Cruising/climbing/descending you have the overspeed. With the TS and Expert server they have a speed limit of 260KT’s below 10,000ft, so you would get a violation and get disconnected. Saying that, in the casual server there is no rules and you are allowed mostly any speed you want. So that’s maybe why there aren’t any flap overspeed indicators anymore…

okay, gotcha. I think that it would be a good feature to re-add! It would add another degree of realism for aircraft that have Flaps Overspeed Indicators in real life.

I can definitely understand the reasoning which may have led to it being removed though.

And as there is a lot more community tutorials on flaps for different aircraft on Infinite Flight, people refer to them for guidance. You could put a feature topic for it though if you wanted.

Here is one:

Here is a guide for the 777

Unfortunately, I do not yet have access to the Features channel to add topics.

Is there a master list for flight profiles for the planes in IF?

There is this one (Its from version 20.1 though :/)

I hope my explanation helped you out on the flap overspeed indicators on the HUD ;)

As to why we don’t have them anymore? You definitely helped with that! Thanks for all of the info!

As the aircraft get reworked and the whole interior/exterior model changes and so do the physics of the aircraft, the devs find better features that go with the reworked aircraft. :)
