Prior to 24.3, pilots were allowed to change their callsign at any point during a flight. That was a nuisance for ATC, so the update that reworked the Cessna Caravan put an end to that. The community reaction, however, wasn’t particularly the best.
The issue is that, right now, the only way to change your callsign is by leaving the flight. While not an issue for people who do just one flight, it has been annoying people who do multi-leg flights, with them being forced to leave the flight, change the callsign, respawn and reconfigure the aircraft. Not only that, this change also opens up the potential to their gate being “stolen” from them, especially if one of the stopovers is at the ATC hub.
To solve this issue, I propose returning to something similar to the old system, but with a catch. Instead of having the ability to change your callsign at any point during a flight, you would only be able to do so once parked. Basically, take the requirements to use GSE (engines and beacon off and parking brake on) and apply them to the callsign change option.
Still, as an ATC, how would you feel if I requested to taxi as PP-VJM Heavy, swapped it to PP-SMA Heavy mid taxi and then requested for departure? You could be “who’s that, and where did VJM go?” If that’s okay for you, why wouldn’t changing it mid-flight be okay?
This isn’t that big of an issue since as an ATC you can see all the messages you issued on the aircraft. It sure may be unprofessional, but if someone were to change the callsign to the correct one, they would realize its incorrect once they request pushback, or when they issue taxi on a UNICOM frequency. But most that stick to realistic airline.
Plus, chaging it mid-taxi isnt gonna create as much confusion as changing it within a busy airspace.
Of course i understand the point to keep it only at the gate, but i repeat my point to what i said before this message.
Brilliant idea! Like trying to add fuel in flight. It’s not allowed. Plane is parked and powered down with parking brakes active & stairs or gangway present. End of problem! The Ground ATC on the ES will see what’s going on much easier.
Honestly the only time this isn’t an issue is when your flying the Challenger lol. But I thought about this…at least be able to change the callsign when your parked, I completely agree.
Honestly, it’s ridiculous to create a vote for this, before this was already possible, and due to a poor study of their development it doesn’t work, it’s disappointing
I couldn’t agree more with your suggestion. I’ve been using infinite flight for over a decade, and I’ve significantly curtailed my usage since the developers implemented the change. I use to love flying a regional jet and jetting all over a particular continent. 10 hours. 10 landings. Different call sign for each.
They have to bring back being able to change the call sign. I think your suggestion (parking to change) is a great one. Let’s hope they listen.
Today would have been the perfect day for regional flights around the northeast of the United States. Numerous airports have ATC, and deserve to have pilots land, refuel and takeoff as a new flight! Fix this ASAP
I voted for this. This was fixing something that wasn’t broken.
I don’t care. I see people do it all the time, sometimes I do it myself. You can still see the history of messages. It doesn’t matter so much at the end of the day.
Unprofessional? This is just a flight simulator, not a real world work situation…
I just want to come back to this and say, Infinite Flight is worse with this change. Having to quit the game to change my flight is truly awful. It’s dramatically changed how much I play and enjoy the app. Please bring it back. As someone said above here, banning changing my flight number was a huge mistake, and fixing something that wasn’t broken…
That a good idea to solve this. Tbh I think that isn’t too long to change so I hope we’ll can see that for the Max’s update. Hope devs have already seen the topic and are working on that.
