Version Information

Device Information

Ipad 5th generation
iOS 14

Summary

When I issue a vector sometimes it gives the farthest direction to the heading.

Steps to reproduce

  • Launch IF
  • Open an approach frequency
  • Give vectors

Expected results

The command should have the nearest direction to the heading.

Actual results

Opposite direction in the commands, >200 degree turn.

More Information

This happened twice to me while controlling approach at FACT today making pilots turn to the incorrect direction, as it’s difficult to found two airplanes in a 2 hours replay I attach here an image from today in a Training Session, obviously the controller has the beta.

What heading were they flying when issued the command with the incorrect direction?

They were flying with heading 180, then I instructed heading 270 (to the right) and the command had left direction.

I’m able to reproduce it but will need help figuring out a consistent repro. Very strange one.

Beat me to it. Not sure how to reproduce it, but I had this happen a few times controlling today. I have photos of the headings if needed.

Version Information

20.2 (465)

Device Information

Ipad 7th gen, IOS 13.5.1

Summary

I was flying at 4000ft, HDG 060, approach controller told me to CLIMB and maintain 3000 and turn LEFT heading 120 (instead of DESCEND and turn RIGHT)

Steps to reproduce

  • Launch IF
  • Fly inbound -> RKSI (from west)
  • Contact ATC approach
  • request ILS approach RWY 15L
  • Follow ATC instructions
  • Wait until ATC clear you for approach with altitude and heading changes

Expected results

When you have to descend, it says “descend” instead of “climb”, and when you turn right, it says “right” and not “left”

Actual results

When you receive the a clearance with ATL/HDG instructions, climb/descend and left/right won’t be correct

More Information

We tried to create the problem again, it didn’t work (the sentences were correct). I still make this report in case it’s useful. On the pic, you can see with the instruments that I was at 4000ft and 060 degrees, and with the ATC conversation that it told me to climb and turn left

(and attach pics and logs if available. If a video is required, do not upload directly to the forum - please use a video streaming service like YouTube, ensuring the link is unlisted)

Just a thought, what was your AGL altitude at the time?

It’s above the ocean, so really close to 4000ft AGL

Happened again during training sessions, I think it’s when you receive a comment with new altitude (descent) and new heading. I’ll be attentive next time

I’d suggest checking with the controllers/pilots (if possible) what exact version of IF/beta they’re using. I’ve experienced this a few times but none have been on the same beta version.
