What is your opinion on US budget airlines? I respect all opinions! I know that Spirit and Frontier are pretty much the only ones I guess SW can count.
Spirit: Very interesting airline. Not a fan of their yellow livery I prefer the blue one. Incredible fares but like most budget airlines, you got to pay for a lot of things! And they don’t fly to SNA or DAL, the airports I usually fly out of. And like the usual case with some if not most budget airlines, the seats aren’t that comfy. That is the downside. The upside about Spirit is that they have really cool destinations and they have an awesome fleet.
Frontier: This is my favorite US budget airline. I love how they have animals on the tails! Like Spirit, they have cool destinations and an awesome fleet. That is the upside. The downside is that on the LAX or SNA-DFW has a stop in Denver. To me, that means more plane spotting time and a cool experience. But not if you are traveling with a family. The other downside is like Spirit, the seats aren’t the comfiest, but that is just what I have heard.
Southwest: If you want to find an airline that really cares for it’s customers, this is the airline. Snacks and drinks are always free, bags fly free, and there are no change fees. And the fares are always low. Plus, they fly to a lot of airports, big and small. The downside is the cabins are not the nicest because like Spirit and Frontier, there are no IFE. On the SW commercials, the cabins and seats look quite modern but not the best. But of course that is on the -800 cabins. Not good if you are flying on the -700 cabins! Also, their fleet is only 737 so if you don’'t like Boeing that much, you are out of luck if you are flying SW! And don’t forget you have boarding positions divided into A,B, and C. The quicker you check in, the quicker you will board. A boards first and C boards last.
Having flown on both Frontier and Southwest, and also Delta and American. I must say I don´t find Southwest being a LCC, free luggage and free drinks and snack? Doesn´t seem very Budget to me, furthermore, I enjoyed SWA a lot more than DL and AA. Frontier though, is a whole different story, just stay away from them IMO, I´d rather pay a little more and then actually not feeling like being in a box and sitting on a stone or something like that.
But if I must, SWA is by far my favorite “budget” airline in the US. :)
How about Allegiant Air? Even though they have outdated aircraft (but are replacing their Mconnell Douglas and Boeing 752’s with A319’s and A320’s) They really have not had any “major” incidents
No yeah, don´t get me wrong, both decent airlines. And I do prefer Delta between those two. All 3 flights DL has been good. But I´d rather fly SWA, tbh. And I find their FA´s to be a lot more passionate about their job. Something you won´t find on Delta, and especially not AA and Frontier.
Good to see you´re not one of those who starts DM´ing when people disagree with you!
For trips to sporting events I always fly SW and I must say it is a really great airline in my opinion. While their 737 fleet modernness varies you will never be stuck on one that feels just nasty, they are all in relatively good condition. The service is good too. Overall they are great and I wouldn’t choose to fly with anyone else as far as budget airlines go.
