OpenSource Livery Templates

Clearing a vote for this, I had the same idea a long time ago but don’t know why didn’t I look for the topic here!

I would love to see this be implemented!
I think the most practical way would be a category on the IFC for user liveries, where the files could be uploaded for iOS/android. With that a specific replacement livery would be selected to depict the closest ingame livery to the custom one (i.e someone makes a Delta Skyteam 738, it would appear as a standard DL 738 to anyone who doesn’t have it downloaded)
In addition, an IF sanctioned group, similar to the IFAET could be created to internally approve liveries and provide support. And then all liveries produced and approved would be released to the IFC for public download. However as a caveat a user may create a livery for personal use that would not be allowed to be shared via IFC, but would be only used privately, or via direct sharing between users ( a couple of examples being custom personal liveries, low quality reproductions, fictional VA’s, or certain copyrighted liveries)

This would obviously take a lot of work to implement, but it would really open up new possibilities and help further diversify the portfolio of liveries in Infinite Flight.

I don’t have a technical opinion on the subject, that’s why I’m wondering why it’s so expensive to do this ?
What are the differences with IFAET ? airports take data and it’s a cost too.
If the liveries are so voluminous, Is it possible with the metar project to optimize size even more ?

I think the key is to be able to only download the liveries you want, reducing the amount of liveries that need to be rendered on the user-end

Liveries are becoming really annoying for us and for devs, we need some kind of solution, many users are stopping playing IF, and some of them because of the liveries, many countries have really outdated or missing liveries such as Iberia, Aeromexico, Avianca, Tam, LATAM, LAN, Copa, Transavia, ETC.

We really need them.

Completely agree, it would be super good, for example in my case that I am from Colombia, we only have Avianca, we would love to have Viva Air, Wingo and among others. I know about design and I would like to support the development of Liveries, they should at least share the aircraft templates with us and we start with the creation and then they approve them and then add them.

With this we would help each other a lot: Satisfying the user and helping you in the work of creating liveries. Think about it, it would be a good idea.

Bumping this topic, we need this feature! I tried editing an Air Transat A321, it isn’t the best, but I’m sure with practice, we could all make custom liveries!

This flight sim will become just like RFS quality wise. In RFS, lots of people make and add liveries and most of them look absolutely horrible. I like whats happening currently, devs make high quality liveries instead of a million community contributed ones.

What do you think curently about the quality of airports (surface, taxiways, gates…) ?
Because they are made by contributors from IFAET. We can’t compare at all RFS and IF.
I’m in favor of IF Livery Editor Team. Many liveries are missing.

That’s a special team of people doing the airports and stuff like that. In the topic, there wasn’t a mention of a special team of IFC members doing it. Plus, IFAET members would have been selected if they can model airports well so having a bad airport is unlikely.

@Dr3ambigg3r just to think if GAF had their own livery.

Well they sure do miss a few things as well 😅

Those are small mistakes. If you have played RFS, you will know how bad most liveries are.

But isn’t IF’s goal to be realistic as possible? Yes small mistakes, but the KLM Orange Pride one sure does get on my nerves.

People here were talking about how to avoid horrible liveries and they were suggesting a team kind of like IFAET ir they have to be approved through someone first

Sure *did, right? Because based on this topic I see the KLM logo was already fixed in 21.6, which will be good news for you!

Yes it takes time to finish and then later edit liveries, but in prior discussions over the last few years it’s not a lack of effort by the developers. My impression is there might actually be a limit to the number of liveries that can be held on any one aircraft in Infinite Flight, at least in today’s version of the app. That might be tackled in the future however.

I think we have tons of liveries compared to other flight sims, and that is fantastic. I’m not really in favor of hundreds of liveries swamping the developers for approval, especially if their current focus is on a similar group of editors for 3D airports. I really like the high-quality liveries we currently have, and I worry that for every talented livery designer that can and would submit a passing livery, we’d get 10-20+ liveries that wouldn’t be up to standard.

Maybe there could be a store type thing where you can download them… like other sims.

Voted, I really want to make Lone Star One, because I don’t believe there are enough proud Texans that want Lone Star One in the game. I would so make other liveries as well.

Maybe we could have a team where you can submit a livery and that could be sort of a application thing.
